🦎💚 Happy World Lizard Day! 💚🦎

Today we’re celebrating some of our amazing lizard patients and giving you a peek at what comprehensive exotic pet care looks like at Sweetwater Veterinary Hospital!

Lizards may be small, but their healthcare is anything but one-size-fits-all. During a physical exam, we take a close look at their overall health and husbandry, including species-specific temperature, humidity, lighting, diet, and habitat requirements. Because what’s ideal for a bearded dragon may be completely different for a crested gecko or an iguana!

❤️ Heart health: We use a specialized instrument called a Doppler to listen carefully to the heart and screen for abnormalities such as murmurs or arrhythmias.

🩻 Imaging: As pictured, we can perform X-rays and ultrasound to look beneath the scales and help detect disease that may not be visible from the outside.

🩸 Annual bloodwork: Routine bloodwork gives us valuable insight into what’s happening internally and can help us identify disease before your pet starts showing obvious signs of illness.

🌡️ Husbandry consultations: We discuss the unique environmental needs of each species because there is truly no one-size-fits-all approach to reptile care.

Our goal is to help your scaly family members live long, healthy lives by combining preventative medicine, advanced diagnostics, and species-specific care. 🦎💚

🐱💗 Happy International Cat Day! 💗🐱

Today is all about celebrating the cats who make our lives better with their purrs, personalities, and very strong opinions. 😹

At Sweetwater Veterinary Hospital, we believe caring for cats means looking beyond just their medical needs — we care about their comfort, stress levels, and overall well-being, too. 🐾
Here are just a few ways we make feline visits a little easier and their healthcare a little more comprehensive:

🐾 Fear Free approach — We use minimal restraint when possible and work with your cat’s comfort level rather than forcing them through an exam.
🐾 Churu treats & Feliway — Because sometimes a little distraction, a tasty treat, and calming pheromones can make a BIG difference. 😋
🐾 A separate cat waiting area — Cats don’t have to sit surrounded by barking dogs while they wait for their appointment.
🐾 Cat-friendly exam rooms — We even keep cat toys in our rooms to help make the environment feel a little more inviting. 🧶
🐾 Senior cat monitoring — For our senior patients, we offer additional screening such as blood pressure measurements and ECGs to help detect changes that may not be obvious at home.
🐾 Pre-anesthetic bloodwork — Before anesthesia, we recommend bloodwork to evaluate important internal organs and make sure your cat is in the best possible position to safely process medications.
🐾 Preventive care that evolves with your cat — From kittenhood through their golden years, we tailor recommendations to their age, lifestyle, and individual needs.

Because cats are experts at hiding illness, routine veterinary care can make a huge difference in catching problems early. ❤️
So today, give your cat an extra treat, a favorite toy, or simply let them judge you from across the room. 😂

Happy International Cat Day from all of us at Sweetwater Veterinary Hospital! 🐱💕
