🐥 A Little About Silkie Care & What Goes Into Raising My Birds 🐥
I wanted to take a moment to share a little about what goes into caring for my Silkies and why I ask what I ask for my birds.
I like to think of Silkies as ornamental chickens. They are beautiful, unique, and full of personality, but they can require a little more care and attention than your typical backyard flock. Their fluffy feathers, special nutritional needs, and overall maintenance are just a few things that make raising them a little different.
One thing I've learned through my own experience is that nutrition is especially important. I've had great luck feeding my flock Nutrena NatureWise All Flock , which runs me approximately $26 a bag I like this food because it does have a higher protein which silkie's do need. I also provide vitamins in their water as part of my flock's care routine, and every evening they get treats of black soldier fly larvae for some extra protein.
Of course, there's more to raising healthy birds than just feed. There's the daily cleaning, fresh water, keeping their living spaces clean and dry, watching for signs of illness, and making sure each bird gets the attention it needs. All of that takes time, effort, and money.
I'm not sharing this to discourage anyone from getting Silkies. Quite the opposite! They are wonderful little birds, and I absolutely love raising them. I just want people to understand that bringing home a Silkie means being prepared for a little extra maintenance and responsibility.
When I ask a certain price for my birds, it isn't just about the bird itself. It's about the care, quality feed, supplements, time, and love that have gone into raising them.
I want my birds to go to homes where they will be appreciated, cared for, and given the best life possible. ❤️
Thank you to everyone who supports my little Silkie farm and understands the work that goes into raising these special birds! 🐓💕
