🦷 Dental disease can affect your pet's quality of life too. By three years old, most cats and dogs already have some form of dental disease.

🐾 Watch out for early signs like bad breath, tartar buildup, and swollen gums. Early detection is important to prevent chronic pain and inflammation.

💙 Show your pet some love by scheduling their preventive care exam with regular dental evaluations at least once a year.

🍔 A burger… made their way 🐾
Today is National Hamburger Day, but your pet doesn’t need the drive-thru version to feel included.

In fact, many classic burger ingredients—like onions, garlic, and heavy seasoning—can upset their stomach (or worse). The good news? You can still treat them—just a little differently. Think:
🥩 Plain, lean protein
🥕 Pet-safe veggies
🚫 No added salt, spices, or toppings

Because the best treats aren’t the ones we share…they’re the ones we choose with them in mind. ❤️
If you’re ever unsure what’s safe, we’re always here to help!

☀️ Hot Pavement = Hot Paws 🐾

Hot pavement can burn your pet’s paws faster than you think.

A good rule of thumb: if it is too hot for your hand, it is too hot for their paws. Sidewalks, asphalt, truck beds, and even parking lots can become dangerously hot during Tennessee summers. 🌡️

Signs of burned paw pads may include:
🐾 Limping
🐾 Excessive licking of feet
🐾 Darkened or peeling paw pads
🐾 Refusing to walk

Try early morning or evening walks when temperatures are cooler and always make sure your pets have access to fresh water and shade. ❤️

If you think your pet may have burned paw pads or is uncomfortable, give us a call.

🐶🐱 Want to know if your furry friend is at a healthy weight? Here are some key points to keep in mind:

🐾 You should be able to feel their ribs under a slight fat covering.

🐾 Your pet should have a visible waistline when viewed from above.

🐾 Your pet should have an abdominal tuck.

🐾 If you can see your pet’s ribs and spine, they are too thin.

🐾 On the other hand, if your pet has no discernible waistline and their belly sags, they’re too heavy.

Bring in your pet for a nutritional exam with one of our doctors.
Ask our team for more information about your pet's body condition.

Happy World Turtle Day from all of us at Palmdale Veterinary Hospital 🐢
Today we’re celebrating our shelled friends and the important role turtles and tortoises play in our ecosystems.
From backyard ponds to exotic habitats, these incredible reptiles remind us how diverse and delicate animal life can be.

Turtles face threats like habitat loss, pollution, and injury, but with awareness and care, we can all help protect them—whether that means keeping wild spaces clean, being mindful of road crossings, or supporting conservation efforts.
Take a moment today to appreciate these amazing animals and the slow-and-steady impact they have on our world 💚
💥 Not to brag but we have a wonderful exotic pet veterinarian. 😊
