We received very sad news today one of our patients a very sweet young dog was bitten by a rattlesnake last night and sadly has crossed the rainbow bridge. We offer our most sincere condolences to the family of this sweet girl. But I wanted to take the time to caution everyone in Palm Harbor area and all of our clients to please please be very cautious and alert when your pets are outside in the yard or you’re walking them. This is the fourth rattlesnake envenomation we have seen this year the other patients were larger dogs with less serious injuries that survived. Most people around here are not aware that we have rattlesnakes in our area, but there is a huge upswing in them probably because of the weather patterns. There are a ton over by the Pinellas Trail and Honey Moon Island and Wall Springs Park - both Pygmy rattlers and Eastern Diamondbacks. Make sure any brush and debris is cleared from your yard and regularly patrol your yard looking for snakes or signs of snakes, such as shed. Eliminate access to any hiding areas such as holes under decks or porch steps. And most of all closely watch your pet when they’re outside. Rattlesnakes aren’t the only dangers in our area. We’ve also seen one drowning already this summer and of course Bufo toads are always a problem when we are getting more rain. Watch those babies. These are pics of a few snake bites in their practice/patients of ours. WARNING:⚠️ ‼️ wound care and blood.

We send our love and support to the Ross family. We love you all and are thinking of you.
