☀️ Summer BBQs, picnics, and pool days mean more tempting foods around your pup—but not everything on your plate is safe to share. 🐶🚫
Keep these foods out of reach:
🌽 Corn on the cob – The cob can cause a life-threatening intestinal blockage.
🍇 Grapes – Even a small amount can lead to kidney failure.
🧅 Onions – Toxic to dogs and can damage red blood cells.
🥑 Avocado – The pit is a choking hazard, and the fruit is high in fat, which may cause stomach upset or pancreatitis.
🍺 Alcohol – Even small amounts can be dangerous.
🍦 Ice cream – Many dogs are lactose intolerant, and some products contain xylitol, which is highly toxic.
🌭 Hot dogs – High in fat and sodium, and seasonings may contain onion or garlic.
🍗 Cooked chicken bones – They can splinter and injure the mouth, stomach, or intestines.
🍢 Skewers – Wooden skewers can cause choking or puncture the digestive tract if swallowed.
💙 If your dog eats any of these foods, don't wait for symptoms to appear. Contact your primary care veterinarian, a veterinary urgent care, or an emergency veterinary hospital right away if your pet's condition worsens or you have any concerns.

💙 Knowing your pet’s normal resting respiratory rate can be one of the easiest ways to monitor their health at home.

A resting respiratory rate should only be counted while your pet is sleeping or completely relaxed. For most healthy dogs and cats, this is 15–30 breaths per minute.

Monitoring your pet’s breathing is especially helpful if they have been diagnosed with a heart murmur, arrhythmia, or heart disease. Knowing their normal resting rate gives your veterinarian a valuable baseline and can help detect changes early. For pets being treated for congestive heart failure, these numbers can also help your veterinarian determine how well treatment is working.

If you notice your pet’s resting respiratory rate is higher than normal, don’t panic. Count it again a few times over the next couple of hours to make sure it’s a consistent finding. If it remains elevated, contact your veterinarian for guidance.

🚨 If your pet is struggling to breathe, breathing with significant effort, has blue or pale gums, collapses, or your cat is open-mouth breathing, seek emergency veterinary care immediately.

Questions about your pet’s breathing? Give us a call we’re happy to help. 💙

☀️🌵 Coachella Valley heat is no joke and it can be dangerous for your pets.
As temperatures rise, even a quick walk or potty break can put your dog at risk for heat exhaustion or heatstroke.
🐾 Watch for:
• Excessive panting
• Drooling
• Bright red gums
• Weakness or collapse
• Vomiting or diarrhea
🌡️ Once temperatures reach 90°F+, outdoor time should be limited. Above 100°F, even brief exposure can become life-threatening.
Keep walks early in the morning or after sunset, always provide fresh water, and never leave pets in a parked vehicle.
🚨 If you think your pet may be overheating, seek veterinary care immediately.
