Some pets struggle with Florida heat more than others.

While every pet can be affected by high temperatures, short-nosed breeds often have a harder time cooling themselves efficiently.

Bulldogs, Pugs, Boston Terriers, and French Bulldogs may be at increased risk for heat-related illness during the summer months.

Knowing your pet's limitations can help keep outdoor activities safe and enjoyable all season long.

If your pet stays overnight, care doesn’t slow down.

Our team continues monitoring their condition, administering treatments, watching closely for changes, and adjusting care as needed throughout the night.

Emergency medicine is around-the-clock for a reason—and so is the care your pet receives while they’re with us. 🐾

With warmer weather, we start to see more pets exposed to things like blue-green algae.

It’s often found in still or slow-moving water—and it doesn’t always look dangerous.

But ingesting even small amounts can be toxic.

If your pet has been near water and starts showing signs like vomiting, lethargy, or trouble walking, it’s important to get them seen right away.

When it comes to algae exposure, early care can make all the difference.

“Maybe they just landed wrong.”

We hear that a lot with broken bones and serious injuries.
But limping, refusing to bear weight, swelling, crying out, or sudden changes after a fall or accident should never be ignored.

Some fractures are obvious.
Others aren’t.

The sooner a broken leg is diagnosed and stabilized, the better the outcome can be for healing and pain management.

Grapes and raisins might seem harmless—but for dogs, they can be extremely toxic.

And unfortunately, even small amounts can cause serious kidney damage.

If your dog eats grapes, raisins, trail mix, raisin bread, or anything containing them, don’t “wait and see.”

Call your veterinarian or emergency hospital right away.

If you’ve ever sat in an emergency waiting room and wondered why it’s taking so long—we get it.

Emergency care isn’t a fixed queue. It’s a constantly shifting system based on urgency. A stable patient can become critical, and a critical patient may need immediate intervention.

Our team adjusts in real time to make sure every pet gets the care they need, when they need it most.

Florida heat can become dangerous for pets surprisingly fast.

Heavy panting.
Bright red gums.
Weakness.
Vomiting.
Collapse.

Heat-related illness is a true emergency—and in hot, humid weather, symptoms can escalate quickly.

If your pet seems weak, disoriented, or suddenly “off” after being outside, don’t wait to get them evaluated.
