🌾 Make your hay gift go 5X further!

A local farmer, Kenny, has offered to generous donate 100+ massive round bales to help feed our residents.

Thanks to discounted transportation we arranged, it costs us just $20 per bale (each of these are 1,000 pounds!).

A bale like this would normally cost AFS around $100.

That means:

🌾 $20 covers 1 round bale
🌾 $60 covers 3 round bales
🌾 $100 covers 5 round bales

Each bale weighs roughly 1,000 pounds and can provide about three days of hay for Copper’s Crew or approximately one week of hay for our herd of 40 goats.

After a brutally dry end to summer, our fields are struggling and our residents are depending on more hay every day. This gift gives us an incredible opportunity to stock up for the months ahead while making every donated dollar go five times further.

The Med Barn is popping as some of our newest babies beat the heat, grow stronger, and continue healing. 💜

One wave of this wand 🥕🫑🍌🍎 and they shall appear!

Snack time is everyone’s favorite. In addition to the thoughtfully curated, nutritious meals our resident’s get, we also like to incorporate a variety of fruits and vegetables into their diets to bring further enrichment to their lives. Not to mention it’s also fun for our volunteers and staff 😊

Fresh sand day for Copper’s Crew 🐄☀️

Stella and Luna have already decided the new pile is theirs. 🐶😂

But most of this sand has a job to do.

We’re cleaning out the lean-to where Copper’s Crew spends so much of their summer, tucked into the shade with a fan moving air through the space. And, as you can imagine with a whole crew of farm animals, they also make that space very dirty. 💩

Old sand comes out. Fresh sand goes in.

It keeps their space cleaner, drier, more comfortable, and easier for us to manage flies and maintain good hygiene.

This is the kind of sanctuary care our Farmily makes possible every single month.

Monthly support helps us plan not only for food and veterinary care, but for fresh bedding, facility maintenance, clean living spaces, fans, repairs, and all the less-glamorous things that make exceptional lifelong care possible.

Today is a doctor day for Sue and Sissy. ❤️‍🩹

Sue was rescued from the side of a highway when he was only a few weeks old.

Sissy came to us as a “failed” FFA project after she was unable to give birth.

Their lives began in very different places, but both were brought into this world because of the ways we use and productize farmed animals. Dire need eventually brought them to sanctuary.

And today, many years after their rescues, sanctuary looks a little different.

No emergency. No crisis. Just two residents whose bodies need a little extra care.

Sue and Sissy are both heading to the doctor to have spots of skin cancer treated. They’ll need a little anesthesia, which always makes transport and vet days a bit nerve-racking, but this is exactly what lifelong care means.

Because being a goat or a pig doesn’t make them any less deserving of thoughtful, proactive medical care than the dogs, cats, and other animals we’re accustomed to taking to the vet.

For me, there’s something especially meaningful about getting to care for them in these quieter moments. We didn’t just get them through their emergencies and move on.

We get to keep showing up.

Today that means loading up the truck and trailer, getting them to their doctors, treating what needs treating, and then bringing them home. By this evening, they’ll hopefully be tucked back into their spaces with their friends. ❤️

💜 After three weeks in the ICU, Fig is finally coming home.

I’m at Texas A&M preparing to pick up this sweet baby boy and bring him to Austin Farm Sanctuary. For most of his short life, Fig has known hospital care, isolation stalls, medical procedures, and a whole lot of fighting.

His care is not over. He will still live in a carefully controlled isolation space at the sanctuary, receive bottles every four hours, and continue testing and treatment until he is medically cleared.

But today, his world gets a little bigger.

Today, he leaves the hospital. He comes home. And he begins learning what life can look like beyond an ICU stall. 🫏❤️‍🩹

We cannot wait for you to follow along as Fig settles in and begins this next chapter.
