Volcano Cat Sanctuary Volcano Cat Sanctuary is a 501c3 nonprofit cat rescue committed to the well-being of all animals on Hawai'i Island.

We are currently fostering kittens ages 4 weeks to 12 weeks, and building a cat sanctuary to permanently house Hawai'i Island's cats.

A little belated celebration for your Sunday-funday,
HARPER GOT ADOPTED!!!

Harper, a gorgeous little ticked tabby boy kitten, appeared under a cherry tree after one of the recent hurricanes, and was miraculously found by one of our fosters!

He was able to be raised by two tabby foster brothers, and now will have the sweet companionship of Gerald, one of our sanctuary favorites!

We’re not sure if kitties are able to tell each other about their pasts, but these two would
definitely have harrowing origin stories to share.

I think it’s written somewhere in the laws of thermodynamics that it’s impossible to resist the nose boop.

Melt your heart Huey can barely keep his eyes open while he’s getting love on his foster’s lap, and we would definitely be booping his little nose too.

Huey is the last of his little clan of siblings who is available for pre-adoption!
And it seems Huey’s baby blues are headed towards gorgeous green eyes!

Beautiful Beerry made his way to his adoptive family!
We love how you can see him look first at one, and then the other of his new human BFFs…

Every time we see his cute little face, we hear the song, “oh I’m just a little black rain cloud…”
*

Beerry, the little thunderstorm kitty, with his black-grey fuzzy wuzzy fur, truly made it through the hurricane to safety, and now will be living a life surrounded by love and snuggles, never to be hungry or stuck out in the rain again.

Meet the Golden Girls!
Aka, 3 calicos and a tortie!

Blanche, Dorothy (tortie), Rose, & Sophia were found during one of the recent storms, up north along the Hamakua coast here on the Big Island. These four sweet kittens banded together until someone working at a local police station found them and got them to a kind friend, who in turn reached out to us.
*
Thankfully they came to us without many health issues, so after assessing them and caretaking them for a little while (with the usual preventatives and basic treatment), they are now ready for pre-adoption!
*
We’ve gotta say, they’re looking quite glam already, so they’re sure to grow into some gorgeous adult kitty cats!
We can’t wait to see who their lucky families will be!

Fundraising Match Update…Just one week left! (Oct 16th deadline!!!)

We have officially crossed the $4K mark in our current fundraising ($4108), which means that with the donation match, we’ll receive $8216!

That means we’ve got less than a thousand dollars to get to $5K, which will mean $10K donated towards our final build stages!

ICYMI…the short and sweet backstory:
We’re building a cat sanctuary just 15 minutes drive away from Volcanoes National Park, on the Big Island of Hawai’i.
We’re doing this because there is a big need on the island for kitties with nowhere to go to have a place to safely live out their lives (or slowly become socialized and adopted out), and because cats impact local environments and creatures found nowhere on earth.
They are not the only things impacting those environments, of course.

We’re in the final stages of building our permanent sanctuary site, as we continue our rescue work right alongside the build.
But the cost of finishing has gone up, due to a change in our lead builder, which means previous fundraising won’t cover the cost of finishing now.

We’ve got an incredible donor who is willing to do a match, so every dollar donated right now will be doubled, and help us to cover our ongoing rescue work and the rest of our build!

GERALD WAS ADOPTED!!!!
Oh this little one…he is just such a sweet and good little being.
*

He came to us just miserable with upper respiratory issues, a fungal infection on his skin, parasites, and malnourished to boot.
*

But the whole time, the WHOLE time, he was nothing but absolute sweetness.
He loves to snuggle, cuddle, be held, and just give and receive love.
He’s also gotten a lot more playful and silly since he’s healed up!
*

Gerald ended up being adopted to the same home as Harper! So he’s going to have a buddy to rough house and snuggle with, which is so perfect.
*

We wish you the absolute best, you little angel!
Please help us celebrate Gerald!!!

You’ll notice we’re not quite done yet…but we have come SO SO far, from determined dream, to non-profit, to buying property, to clearing land, building the first enclosure, and now finishing the main building to house our operations and some kitty shelter for our residents and rescues!
*
We’re currently fundraising for this stage of the build, as costs have ended up exceeding our original budget due to some very important and unavoidable changes that had to be made.
*
From now until Oct 16th, ALL DONATIONS WILL BE DOUBLED, and we are an official non-profit, so all donations are fully tax deductible!
