The Future of Kentucky Companions Training..

After a great deal of thought and reflection, Iโ€™ve made the difficult decision to pause all new training and boarding programs. Ongoing health challenges, combined with my current work situation, mean I can no longer take on new clients at the level of care and consistency your dogs deserve.

This decision was not made lightly. Working with dogs has been one of the greatest joys of my life, and Iโ€™m deeply grateful for every family who has trusted me with their companions.

Whatโ€™s not changing: Current and former clients will still have access to boarding and refresher training sessions. Your dogs remain a priority, and Iโ€™m committed to supporting the relationships weโ€™ve already built.

Thank you for your understanding, your support, and for being part of this journey. Your kindness and loyalty mean more than you know.

If you have questions or need to schedule a service, please reach out at (270)-883-1543.

DONโ€™T FORCE ME TO BE SOCIAL!

It may be really disappointing or frustrating when our dogs are not the social beings we expected them to be.

Many people assume dogs should just naturally get along with other dogs, after all theyโ€™re the same species.

Some believe the โ€œunsociableโ€ dog has a behaviour problem that needs to be โ€œfixedโ€.

Early, appropriately timed and proper socialisation is really important, but sometimes despite all of this, some dogs are just not that sociable or socially selective to varying degrees.

Sometimes this can be improved, especially if the cause is from a negative experience, but genetics, breed tendencies, individual personalities, health and age all contribute to tolerance and sociability, which also change throughout a dogโ€™s lifetime.

If we, as a human species, donโ€™t get along with everyone we meet, how can we expect our dogs to?

Do we label or try to fix every person that has an argument; doesnโ€™t make friends with everyone they meet, dislikes some people, or just prefers not to be social as having a problem that needs to be fixed?

Why is it so easy to accept that every individual person is different than to accept that every individual dog is different?

When we have done what we can to improve our dogsโ€™ social skills, we need to accept and acknowledge our dogs for the individuals they are, allow and respect their choice of whether to be sociable or not and never force interactions that dogs are not comfortable with.

Friday fail!

This jar of Nutella has been 'registered' as a service dog. A comical reminder that the ADA does not require service animals to have ID cards or be registered/certified. They're not required to wear harnesses or vests, either. If you have more questions about this, give us a call!

Dogs communicate at different โ€œvolumes.โ€

Noticing and listening to the more subtle signs (low volume) enables us to intervene and help dogs feel more comfortable so they donโ€™t resort to the more overt signs (high volume).
