I recently looked at my first Facebook post when I met Huffy and realized that the official date we met Huffy was September 4, 2010! ❤️
The first time we met Huffy at the Animal Humane Society in St. Paul, he was there with his brother “Fluffy” 😂 Fluffy was barking very loudly but Huffy just whined and kept begging us with his eyes to take him home. This is Huffy’s brother, Fluffy! 😍 I guess he had the begging eyes look going on too! 🤪 We were told they had just fully recovered from their sterilization surgeries, held in front of a public crowd at the Minnesota State Fair! 🤪
We took Huffy on a brief walk down the street and his collar fell right off of him! It literally deteriorated because he was pulling down hard! We freaked out thinking that we would be in major trouble if we lost a dog that wasn’t even ours!! But I remembered a trick that worked on my dogs from childhood when they got loose: just open a door when they come racing past and distract them into going that way! And it worked! He ran straight into the Humane Society’s play yard! 😂

We loved Huffy’s spots! Right away we preferred his spotted coat to his brother’s who had more solid black on his back and face. They were both cute, though! They looked alike but they had different personalities.
We put a hold on him and slept on the big decision for two nights over the weekend before coming Monday to pick him up! He was so hyper when he adopted him, he even was chewing on the floor rug in the foyer while we were signing the forms. I had a moment of fear, like, what am I getting myself into?! But we got into the best thing ever by adopting him!
I felt a sense of guilt for a while after we adopted him because we left his brother behind. I knew we couldn’t take care of two dogs but I still felt bad. I always wondered what happened to Fluffy and we would always look for him when we saw a dark rat terrier. A few months later I went to an event and met some of Justin’s grad school colleagues. One friend worked with him in a lab and he brought his girlfriend. She was super friendly and we got along. I kept telling her “you look so familiar!” And she listed
