VC Scratch - Ventura County Street Cat Response Action Team

VC Scratch - Ventura County Street Cat Response Action Team Got unfixed stray cats in your neighborhood? We will assist you with trapping the cats and getting them all fixed, ending the breeding cycle.

The Ventura County Street Cat Response Action Team (VC Cat SCRATCH) is a 100% volunteer-based organization dedicated to combatting Ventura County's feline overpopulation problem through the humane process of trap-neuter-return ("TNR"). Contact us, either by posting on this page, through facebook messenger, or by email at [email protected], and let us know. Fixing cats also has the added benef

it of reducing or eliminating obnoxious behaviors such as yeowling when female cats are in heat, fighting between male cats, and spraying behaviors. Through TNR, cats are trapped in humane traps designed specifically for felines. They are held in their traps overnight, and then taken to a veterinary clinic, where they receive spay/neuter surgery as well as a rabies vaccines. They recover safely for at least one additional night, and then they are returned to their home colonies where they can live happily, without adding any additional cats to the feline population.

Out volunteer trapper got him trapped, and took him to where they were able to sedate him and remove the rope from his neck.

We also trapped this pretty little lady kitty from the same location, who was spayed by SPAN! No babies for you, missy! πŸ–€

Both cats are now back safe and sound at their home colony.

Two more cats were trapped overnight from our Oxnard trapping site - that's up to 10 cats trapped now from that colony! πŸ™€

That is 10 cats that won't be making any more kittens, which otherwise would have produced HUNDREDS of offspring over the next few years!! πŸ–€πŸ–€

Huge thanks to the property owner for reporting the situation and allowing us access to get in and get these cats trapped, and huge thanks to Ventura County Animal Services for squeezing in the two last-minute bonus cats for surgery today!!

One more cat trapped from the same Oxnard colony as last night! Not as dramatic of a catch tonight, but EVERY cat fixed is one step closer to our goal of a home for every cat! This guy will be going to Ventura County Animal Services for TNR surgery tomorrow, and then back home after a brief recovery from neuter surgery. πŸ–€

One of our SCRATCH volunteer trappers was shopping at Lowes in Ventura, when she saw a cat run by in the store! πŸ™€ The store employees said that the cat had suddenly showed up out of no where a few months ago, but they hadn't been able to catch it. Our SCRATCH trapper was able to safely and humanely trap the cat overnight in the garden department! 🌷🌺🐸

Kitty appears to be pretty pregnant, so she will be heading into foster with Foundling Kitten Society for monitoring.

We got a report of a large number of unfixed community cats living in a neighborhood in Oxnard, that had already started having kittens this year! πŸ™€ The kittens were taken to Ventura County Animal Services over the past several weeks, where they are now in foster care.

We weren't sure how many cats there were, so we brought 7 traps, because that's how many fit in the car. In about an hour, all 7 traps were filled, and there were still cats loose! We are going back tomorrow evening to try to round up the rest of the colony.

Tomorrow morning, the trapped cats will be going to Humane Society of Ventura County where they will be spayed/neutered and vaccinated, on vouchers provided by The Herman Bennett Foundation! πŸ–€ One of the cats appears to be pregnant, so she will be going into foster with Foundling Kitten Society for monitoring. It truly takes a village, and we are so fortunate in Ventura County to have so many organizations and resources rallying around community cats!! πŸ–€πŸ–€

Our SCRATCH team responded to a report of a pregnant street cat in Camarillo, near CSUCI. The reporting party was concerned due to high coyote activity in the area, and wanted a safe place for her to have her kittens. We went out and trapped mama cat, who is now in foster care with Foundling Kitten Society. The kittens will ultimately be placed for adoption once weaned, and mama cat is showing strong signs that she may be friendly enough to be adopted by the reporting party as a safe indoor-only housecat! πŸ€žπŸ–€ @ Camarillo, California
