They may act like the cone is the greatest injustice they have ever experienced. The incision would disagree.

If you are wondering why your dog or cat has to wear a cone after surgery, it is because licking can introduce bacteria, irritate the incision, damage sutures and delay healing. A few unsupervised minutes can create a much longer recovery.

A properly fitted cone should prevent your pet from reaching the protected area while still allowing them to eat and drink. If they can reach the incision or cannot manage comfortably in the cone, call us before removing it.

With cruciate surgery, the repair itself is only part of our job.

We confirm the instability, check for anything else in the joint that could affect recovery and make sure you leave with a clear plan for protecting the repair at home.
