Chillin' with Mr. Haynes. 🐾

If you remember Haynes, he completed a 100-day rehabilitation program with me in the fall of 2023 after I diagnosed him with a neurobiological condition known as Intermittent Explosive Disorder (IED), a disorder capable of producing sudden, intense episodes of aggression with little or no warning.

Today, seeing him relaxed, confident, and enjoying life is a powerful reminder of what can happen when all the right pieces come together.

The right medication can help quiet a brain that is constantly on high alert. The right behavioral therapy can teach new patterns of thinking and responding. And the right home environment can provide the structure, predictability, and sense of safety needed for those new behaviors to take root.

It's never just one thing; it is the combination of all three that can truly alter the course of a life.

Haynes' case illustrates that behavioral expression is not solely attributable to willfulness or so-called "dominance," but is often rooted in underlying neurobiological processes. And when biology is addressed appropriately, remarkable transformation is possible, not just for the dog, but for the people who love and live with that dog every day.
