⛅️Mornings set the tone for the entire day.
Every morning starts the same way. We begin with manners—coming out of the crate, going outside, coming back inside, and returning to the crate before breakfast. It’s all part of the routine. 🦴🐾
This isn’t about making the dogs perform tricks before they eat. It’s about creating structure and predictability. The dogs know what to expect because we do this every single morning and multiple times throughout the day during their stay. Those repeated moments create clarity and confidence.
Training isn’t just asking, “Can my dog sit?” It’s asking, “Can my dog slow down? Can they wait? Can they hold themselves accountable? Can they work through excitement instead of acting on impulse?”
Movement is easy. Slowing down is hard.
Those few extra seconds at a doorway aren’t about the doorway. They’re about practicing self-control, patience, and thoughtful decision-making. Those skills carry over into every other part of life.
You’ll also notice that every dog in this video is e-collar trained, yet none of them are wearing an e-collar. That’s because what you’re seeing is the power of language and consistency. The tools help teach the language, but they aren’t what maintains it. The understanding between the dog and handler does.
I’m setting the tone for the day and reminding everyone of the expectations before we move into potty breaks, play sessions, training, naps, and everything else. As the day goes on, those reminders become less necessary because the dogs settle into the routine they’ve practiced over and over again.
This is also why not every dog comes to P.E.T. Dogs for boarding. Every boarding dog has first completed one of my training programs. Even when dogs are here “just boarding,” I’m still training. Every interaction reinforces the same language, expectations, and structure we’ve already built together.
The biggest transformations don’t happen because of one big training session.
They happen because of hundreds of small, intentional moments repeated every single day.
