I just wanted to let everyone see King’s new wheels. He seems to be taking to them pretty well. Between the wheelchair and his drag bag his life has changed substantially. It takes so much to keep a small rescue running and I couldn’t be more thankful for all the support.

There will never be another Betty White… and dachshund lovers know exactly why her legacy still matters. ❤️🐾
In a world full of viral stories and empty headlines, Betty’s love for dogs was real. It was lifelong. It was action.
She didn’t just adore dogs… she fought for them.
To Betty, rescue dogs weren’t “just pets.” They were family, healers, little souls worthy of protection. And honestly, anyone who has ever loved a dachshund understands that kind of bond.
Those stubborn little sausage dogs with the giant hearts? Betty would’ve adored every one of them.
Her compassion didn’t stop at words. She supported shelters, championed adoption, and inspired millions to care more deeply for animals who had no voice of their own.
And then came the beautiful miracle of the — when dog lovers everywhere turned grief into hope, raising $12.7 million for shelter dogs. Think about that… millions of people united because one woman spent a lifetime showing the world how to love animals.
That wasn’t just a fundraiser.
That was a movement.
And that mission lives on every time someone adopts a rescue dachshund.
Every time a senior wiener dog gets a second chance.
Every time a foster says “yes.”
Every time someone shares a post that helps one little long-bodied soul find a forever home.
That’s how legacies stay alive.
So today, let’s honor Betty the dachshund way — by loving harder, rescuing louder, and remembering that even the smallest paws can leave the biggest mark on the world.
🐾 If Betty White inspired you, drop a ❤️ for rescue dogs.
And tell me… would you adopt a rescue dachshund?

Let us introduce a couple of new doggos to you!
Rye and Bruno!
Their owner had to give them up as his health issues no longer allowed him to care for them properly.

We got them all up to date on all of their medical needs and now these sweet boys are ready to adopt! They are about a year old and are looking for a forever home. We would keep them but we want to make sure we have room for dogs with special needs.
So, if you think one of these dogs (or both) are bound to be a part your loving pack, send us a message.
If you would like to contribute to their vet bill- that is also appreciated.

We know we can't save them all but we will save the ones we can.

From Cindy:
Susie and Lily had their vet appointment today.
Susie had to have blood work.
Lily had to get shots and has some kind of mass. So we will be draining that in the near future to check for cancer.
$310 for today.

King looks dapper in his new "drag bag." We are still getting used to it and so is he, but he can get about without hurting his hind quarters as much now.
Thank you for your donations that allowed us to purchase this specialty item for him!

Remember King? He is our big old boy who we were fostering that became a permanent pack member this past year.
We told you about how King is losing the ability to use his back legs due to a nuerological condition. He has scrapes and rug burns from dragging his rear end around. He is still so active and strong, often dragging his back legs all the way out into the yard. We would love to get him a "drag bag" to protect his rear end. This bag we found can also be used with walking wheels (which we would like to get him for this summer).

-as you can see, this extra equipment which will help keep King safe is also expensive for our rescue.
Can you help?

We became fosters for King in April of 2025, and then, ultimately, we became his home. King has issues, he has a debilatating neurological condition that affects his spine and, therefore, his back legs. He has lost more and more of his functioning as his condition has progressed. He is to the point that Cindy needs to use a special harness to help him get outside and use the bathroom.
His front legs are still very strong so we hope to purchase him walking wheels for his back legs before summer gets here.

Help with King's walking wheels?

Otis Crossed the Rainbow Bridge.

Sometimes life just sucks and you have to say goodbye to one of your best friends.

Otis. Loyal, sweet Otis. One of our very first rescues, we took him out of a bad situation and brought him into our home. He was so young and full of energy; he used to jump on the kitchen table to look out the window. He was always ready for a cuddle and never challenged the ladies who ran the dog pack, our Luna and Rogue. A perfect companion and friend. We believe he was 16 years old this year. His hips had been getting worse and he just started sleeping more and more. Yesterday, after going to sleep, he didn't wake up again.

This one hurts very deeply.

But we know that he had an amazing life.
Goodbye, Otis. Thank you.
