🐾🧡 Wilson stole our hearts… now let’s help him find his forever home!

Some dogs leave a little paw print on your heart, and Wilson certainly left one on ours at Kali Mae’s Animal Services. This sweet boy gives hugs, and if you talk to him, he’ll talk right back in the sweetest little tone. 🥹 He has so much personality and love to share!

During his time with us, he didn’t seem bothered by the farm animals while on leash, nor grooming either. We loved getting to know him and seeing what a sweetheart he is. He will also sit on command and takes food gently.

We’ve got him all cleaned up and looking handsome. Now he just needs someone to say, “You’re coming home with me.” 🏡❤️

Wilson is available for adoption through Gibson County Animal Services. Please reach out to them to learn more and arrange to meet him. His pictures are adorable, but getting one of those hugs in person? That’s where he really wins you over.

Even if you can’t adopt, please share Wilson. His person could be on your friends list. Let’s help this lovable boy find a family to hug and someone who will always talk back. 🐾

Wisdom Wednesday!

🐾✂️ SHAVING A DOUBLE-COATED DOG DOES NOT STOP SHEDDING!

Shaving cuts the hair shorter—it doesn’t stop the natural shedding cycle. Your dog will still shed, but the hairs will be shorter. Those tiny hairs can still end up on your clothes, furniture, and floors!

🐶 Examples of double-coated dogs include:
• Golden Retrievers and Labrador Retrievers
• German Shepherds
• Siberian Huskies and Alaskan Malamutes
• Australian Shepherds and Border Collies
• Pomeranians and Corgis
• Great Pyrenees and Newfoundlands

These dogs have a soft undercoat beneath a protective outer coat—even short-haired Labs have two layers!

⚠️ Why do we generally advise against shaving?

☀️ LESS SUN PROTECTION: A close shave exposes skin to sunburn.

🪮 UNPREDICTABLE REGROWTH: The two layers grow at different rates. The coat may return slowly, unevenly, or with changes in texture and appearance. This doesn’t happen to every dog, but normal regrowth isn’t guaranteed.

🌡️ LOSS OF INSULATION: Shaving removes the coat’s natural protection from the elements. It isn’t a reliable way to keep your dog cool or prevent overheating.

🛁 What helps with shedding?
Regular baths, thorough drying, gentle brushing, and appropriate deshedding remove loose undercoat while preserving the protective outer coat. They help manage shedding—nothing eliminates it completely!

💕 Sometimes clipping is necessary for severe matting or veterinary care. Your dog’s comfort and health come first, and each coat needs an individual approach.
