I’ve been thinking all day about what to write regarding the animal welfare situation in our county. And here’s the thing. It’s all been said. It’s been said by concerned citizens. It’s been said to people in positions of authority, people that can make changes but won’t. There is nothing I can say about our county’s sheltering situation that will be new information. So instead, I want to focus on SparKY and what positive things our rescue is doing for this county. Within the last six years, we have purchased a facility to shelter animals. We have opened a cat cafe (cafe part coming soon) and partnered with a nearby rescue to run a very successful spay and neuter clinic. We have a vet and vet tech on staff and employee another seven people to care for our animals. We have been running a successful pet pantry for two years and have served anywhere from 80-100 people a month providing pet food, litter, crates, beds, leashes, toys, etc. We are working in our community to make things better and we have done it all without any taxpayer money or government assistance.
I’ve read the articles and I’ve seen the posts and words like “concern”, “ passion”, & “ making changes” are being thrown around. It’s us folks. We are concerned about the animals in our community and are doing all we can to positively impact those animals. We are passionate about what we do and are always seeking more passionate folks to help our cause. And we are making changes and impacting lives right here where we live and where our rescue is. I invite you to join us if you are passionate and want change. There are things happening in our rescue that will make a huge difference in the lives we can save, the mouths we can feed and the spays and neuters we can perform. Anyone who wishes to make a difference, please join us. You can reach out by sending an email to [email protected]. I would love to hear from you! - Bridget
