This doesn’t happen everyday, but I love me a good solid brood mare! It’s little wee one came right up and stood shoulder to shoulder with me at the dairy bar! 😂

Ok folks it’s going to be roasty toasty this week!! Are we use to it? NOPE! Will I have hot flashes and die all week? YES!

What can you do to make things a little better for your farrier you ask? (You should ask!)

Fans! (Bonus if you show it to your horse before the appt)

Fly spray! (This heat wave is going to create a big hatch, I saw a mosquito and a horse fly today)

Give your horse adequate salt or electrolytes this week, and yourself because we are all going to be dehydrated noodles..

Fly boots! Yes we can work around them, but practice before the appt.. no chicken leg dance moves while you try them on because they are new and never been used before..

Don’t, DONT I repeat DONT hose your horse off to make them cooler for us… unless it’s hours before the appt. I don’t want to get soaked, grab wet dripping legs.. making our chaps wet and shirts damp. Dry heat is better than a wet swamp feeling!

Also don’t wet your horse, do it after.

Have a great week! Don’t worry we will have another frost before the month is over 😂 I bought plants so I guarantee it. 🪴

Us farriers have a ton of work to do, spring growth was late this year now it’s summer so we have tons of hoof to come off, thank you for your participation, and support dealing with how cranky we are all going to be.

Some of you have met the new apprentice, but if you haven’t her name is Rachel, she graduated Cornell’s farrier program and looking to sharpen her skills with us! Welcome Rachel number 3! Those who have been with me a long time I’m sure are laughing at how I am collecting ladies named Rachel 😂

I hope my client doesn’t mind me posting this but I was working on setting up some glue on shoes and looked over my shoulder to see her snuggling her lovely boy with her pups around and it was just such a sweet moment. Taking time to appreciate all the horses I am blessed to work on, and how much their owners love them (and how much the little rescue pups love hoof snacks).
