LilliCrest Farm, LLC is a private training barn located in West-Central Wisconsin, 8 miles south of Osseo. Fran is a former Parelli Professional, and has been competitive at the National level as an Eventer, Jumper, and Dressage rider. She is also an experienced barefoot trimmer, and has worked for, and managed a number of international level competition barns and programs, as well as building her own farm and program in Wisconsin from the ground up. Her passion lies in helping the horse and rider see the best of each other through a combination of a horseman's attitude, along with the techniques of classical equitation, dressage, and horsemanship.

We have a new Mascot!!

Here to bring you some light-hearted joy this week, we’re super excited to welcome “Ellie” to the LilliCrest Farm Family! Carrying on the tradition of the Border Collie portion of the farm logo, this little lady is 8 weeks old, and here to bring the whole world some much needed light 💫

She will be, and is down and around the barn with mom and the big dogs, and we’d love for you to play with and snuggle her when she requests! A well-socialized barn dog takes a village certainly, and we are so happy to share her, with ours! She IS teenie tiny though, so watch your step 🖤💛🖤

Guess what time of year it is….

Time to start thinking about those Saturday mornings again!

I’ve had a few of you inquire about if and when we’re starting back up with Jump School and the answer is yes! We’ll start our weekly Winter Jump School series on Saturday, November 14th!

Cost will be $40 with your horse.

I will have school horses available, however for the welfare of my horses and safety of their riders, school horses will only be available to existing LilliCrest students who are actively taking two or more lessons per month, here.

Cost with my horses will be $50.

All jump school spots must be booked and prepaid by the Thursday evening prior to each date! Groups will be posted Friday prior!

Interested in trying jumping but don’t meet this criteria? Don’t worry, we’ll be offering a format for that this year, too! Stay tuned for a post about that a little later this week! I promise I gotchu!

Sale Horse Highlight:

Cheyenne is stepping back into regular work like she didn’t miss a beat.

Cheyenne came as a pair with our gray mare Harley last spring. She’s 18, a proven broodmare, and greenly restarted undersaddle. I think she spent most of her post track life before my neighbors got her, raising babies.

Cheyenne is about 15.1 or 2, a nice size for someone wanting an all around horse. She is kind and brave, but she is an anxious type. She is a mover for you HHHL folks and a RBE cusp LBE if Parelli is your chosen filter. She bonds HARD — with other horses and with people. In a healthy balance she’ll be incredible, but truthfully, we have not had a lot of time to focus on creating more confidence in that department, so she can still sometimes be difficult to sooth.

She is chonky, sound and UTD on feet, teeth and vaccines.

I would be open to discussing any number of possible arrangements with folks interested. I’d ideally love to see her in a home that can offer her a soft place to land where her needs can be met and someone can devote time to her in whatever context. She’s not bothered in new places but is definitely needing some emotional support, and that’s more important to me than dollars.

“Lakota Bell” is a 2009 OTTB mare. She stands 16.2hh, and is a big bodied girl.

Belle is:
-Smart
-Sensitive
-Honest
-Outwardly seeks connection
-Loves to Jump
-Safe and easy on trails of all kinds
-Simpler Keeper as far as Thoroughbreds go
-Confident on and off property, on XC

I am hopeful we can find for her a home where she’s someone’s personal horse, not one of a string. She is sound to do lots of fun sporty things, loves to hack out solo or with friends, and would be an amazing horse for someone eager to learn about how to utilize dressage to improve and gymnasticize an athlete, in addition to having a safe and effective jumper.

She is absolutely NOT suited to a rank-and-file performance program where she is one of masses, and needs to be the love of someone’s life who enjoys watching HER succeed.

Reduced to 75❤️‍🔥❤️‍🔥, with lots of room to negotiate terms to the right match. We had a fantastic clinic with Mark Aplin last weekend at LilliCrest!! This footwork exercise and subsequent course challenged pace, accuracy and suppleness, and riders of all levels saw fantastic improvements!

If you, too, would like to learn in a light-hearted but committed-to-riding-well environment, Mark will return to LilliCrest Farm on Sunday, November 8th! Mark works well with all ages and levels. We will have groups ranging from green-bean poles/x’s all the way to 1.20m+. Earlybird pricing is $150 until October 31st, after which it will raise to $200. School horses are available to existing LilliCrest clients on a limited basis for an additional $25.

An inquiry for the horse owning masses:

I am coming to the conclusion that my preferred mode of education and content sharing aside from in-person, is through writing. I have been told for I should write for a living or consider a career in journalism.

I don’t want to be solely reliant on that, but I do enough of it anyway that I’d like to capitalize where I can, and include horses and horsemanship as my muse.

To that end, I’m considering starting a Substack. As a millennial from the BlogSpot era, I kind of would like the option of a paywall and some copyright protection, but also the option to share for free and Substack has both.

The “suggested subscription” is $7/month.

Here are my questions:

1) would you pay it? If not, is there a better number?

2) How much content would you expect to see for that fee?

3) What kind of articles would you read? Education? Inspiration? Philosophy? A series of some kind?

Any suggestions welcome. I love to write. But I love to write even more when I have an interesting and challenging prompt, too!

Now that the back-to-school shuffle has happened and our summer help’s schedules have them back in class, we’re looking for an additional PM chore person!

Duties include 12-14 stalls cleaned, hay nets and waters filled. Sometimes feed and turnout for horses prior. Must start between the hours of 4:30 and 6:00, and be finished by 9pm. Up to 4 days per week available with the exception of Wednesdays.

Ideal candidate is 16+, has their own transportation, and is cleanliness oriented, efficient, knows how to stay off their phone during work hours, and has some horse handling experience. Happy to train the right person, and could evolve into a groom/assistant position for the right candidate.
