Marina is looking adorable in her No-Flap Ear Wrap after surgery to repair her ear hematoma. 🐾👒

An ear hematoma is a pocket of blood that builds up between the skin and cartilage of the ear flap (pinna) in dogs and cats. This is usually caused by intense scratching or head shaking due to allergies, ear infections, or injuries, which can rupture small blood vessels.

Dr. Leek performed surgery to drain the hematoma and placed mattress sutures to repair Marina’s ear. After surgery, Marina was sent home with her stylish new hat and the appropriate medications to help her ears heal comfortably.

We think she’s wearing her recovery gear quite well! 😊

Meet Marcus Aurelius 🏛️

Marcus got himself into a “stick-y” situation…

At around five months old, this little stinker got himself into some trouble. What seemed like a fun toy in the yard quickly turned into a painful injury. After playing with a stick, his owners noticed significant swelling on the right side of his face. Upon examination with Dr. Bell and her team, it appeared that Marcus had lacerated his gum line and needed surgery.

Sticks may seem like a harmless toy for your pet, but they can actually pose several risks. Chewing on sticks can cause numerous injuries, including splinters in the tongue or gum line, lacerations, choking, damaged teeth, or even pieces becoming lodged in the mouth or digestive tract. If your pet is a stick chewer, we definitely recommend redirecting them to safer toys made for tough chewers.
