PYOMETRA: KNOW THE SIGNS 🚨

Pyometra is a life-threatening uterine infection that can occur in unspayed female dogs and cats, often following a heat cycle.

⚠️ Watch for:
• Increased thirst/urination
• Lethargy
• Loss of appetite
• Vomiting
• Swollen or painful abdomen
• Vaginal discharge

🚨 No discharge doesn’t mean no pyometra. With a closed pyometra, there may be no visible discharge at all.

Pyometra can quickly lead to sepsis, uterine rupture, and death.

❤️ The best prevention? Spaying.

If your unspayed female pet is suddenly acting sick, contact your veterinarian immediately.

🐾 When in doubt, don’t wait it out.

Do you know the signs of a feline urinary blockage?

A urinary blockage is a life-threatening emergency, especially in male cats. A completely blocked cat cannot urinate, and dangerous toxins and electrolyte abnormalities can develop quickly.

🐱 Signs to watch for:
• Repeated trips to the litter box
• Straining to urinate
• Producing little or no urine
• Crying, yowling, or acting painful while trying to urinate
• Licking the ge***al area excessively
• Urinating outside the litter box
• Blood in the urine
• Restlessness or hiding
• Vomiting, weakness, or extreme lethargy

⚠️ One of the biggest warning signs: Your cat is repeatedly attempting to urinate but you aren’t seeing urine in the litter box.

A urinary blockage can initially look like a simple urinary tract problem, constipation, or a cat who is just “having trouble going.” Do not wait to see if it gets better.

🩺 If you suspect your cat is blocked, seek veterinary care immediately. This is not something that can safely be treated at home.

Treatment may require sedation, placement of a urinary catheter to relieve the obstruction, IV fluids, pain control, and hospitalization while your cat is monitored and recovers.

💙 Prevention & monitoring matter:
Make sure your cat has access to fresh water, keep litter boxes clean, minimize stress when possible, and pay attention to changes in litter-box habits. Cats are experts at hiding illness, so even subtle changes deserve attention.

📌 Remember:
Straining + little/no urine = EMERGENCY.

If you’re ever unsure whether your cat is actually urinating, it’s always safer to have them evaluated.

🐾 Share this post with another cat parent — recognizing a urinary blockage early could save a life.

🪱 DID YOU KNOW? Indoor pets can still get parasites!

Even pets who rarely or never go outside can be exposed to parasites.

Fleas, intestinal parasites, and heart worm can make their way into your home through other pets, people, insects, contaminated environments, or even a brief trip outdoors.

Indoor doesn’t always mean parasite free!

Regular veterinary checkups and year-round parasite prevention help protect your pet from parasites that can sometimes cause serious health problems. ❤️🐾
