Dear Kindred Spirits Family,
For the past six years, Simparica TRIO has been our most frequently recommended monthly flea, tick, and heartworm preventive for dogs. It has protected many of our patients well, and it remains a safe and effective option that we continue to trust.
As veterinary medicine evolves, our medical team regularly reviews new research and products to ensure that our recommendations continue to provide the best protection possible for our patients. After considerable discussion and review, beginning September 1, Kindred Spirits will transition our primary recommendation for canine parasite prevention from Simparica TRIO to Credelio Quattro.
Credelio Quattro is a monthly chewable preventive that provides broader parasite protection, including coverage against tapeworms in addition to fleas, ticks, heartworm disease, roundworms, and hookworms. We have also been impressed by its faster tick-killing activity, particularly toward the end of the monthly dosing period when compared with products such as Simparica TRIO, an important consideration for our patients here in Maine. It also has a safety profile similar to other medications in this class and may also offer a more cost-effective option for many families.
We recognize that changing a medication your dog has taken successfully may naturally lead to questions. This change does not mean that we have concerns about Simparica TRIO. It remains an excellent product, and dogs that have done well on it do not need to change simply because our general recommendation is changing.
For families who prefer to continue using Simparica TRIO, we will gladly continue providing prescriptions through our online pharmacy, where it can be shipped directly to your home.
Our team will be happy to discuss which preventive is most appropriate for your dog during their next wellness visit. You may also call the clinic with questions, and one of our team members will follow up with you.
Every recommendation we make is guided by the same goal: providing thoughtful, dependable protection that fits the needs of both our patients and the families who care for them.
