The Bailey Veterinary Medical Center Elizabeth Jobe DVM, CCRP, cVMA General Practice and Rehabilitation Services

Dr. Elizabeth Jobe was born and raised in the South, near Atlanta, Georgia, though she doesn’t have a southern accent to prove it! Her family knew she would become a veterinarian upon the discovery of her sleeping outside in the doghouse with the family pets as a child. Dr. Jobe grew up playing soccer and competed for the USA National team and Clemson University, graduating with a Bachelor of Scie

nce degree in Animal and Veterinary Sciences in 2007. Upon graduation, Dr. Jobe attended The University of Georgia College of Veterinary Medicine and graduated Summa Cum Laude in 2012. Excited to get out West and to be in the mountains, Dr. Jobe moved to Santa Fe, NM to start her veterinary career; however, her love for physical therapy and sports medicine led her to pursue a more specialized career as the Rehabilitation Director and Medical Director for multiple hospitals in the northern Denver, CO area. Dr. Jobe moved to Tucson and joined PAWS Veterinary Center as both Rehabilitation Director and General Practitioner in 2016, and after a decade in the field decided the calling for ownership was the right fit. The Bailey Veterinary Medical Center was born to honor her 16-year-old dog, Bailey, who has slept under her desk and been a mascot every day at work since she became a veterinarian. Due to numerous knee surgeries from soccer injuries, Dr. Jobe spent a lot of time in physical therapy igniting her passion and appreciation for physical medicine. She received her certification as a Canine Rehabilitation Practitioner (CCRP) in 2013 through the advanced training program with the University of Tennessee and received her certification as a Veterinary Medical Acupuncturist (cVMA) with Colorado State University in 2014. Additionally, Dr. Jobe completed the Canine Course with the International Academy of Medical Massage for Animals in 2013. She is a Certified Fear Free Practitioner, USDA Accredited Veterinarian and member of the American Veterinary Medical Association. Whenever she’s not in the office, you can find Dr. Jobe hitting the mountain bike trails with her husband Kelvin. Traveling is a passion of hers, and she hopes to hike through Patagonia some day! Downtime involves cooking, reading, and relaxing with her AKC Canine Good Citizen named Bailey, who dances for her morning kibble, cool-cat Baloo, who doubles as a fur scarf at night, and McFly, the Siberian Forest Cat who likes jumping in the shower!

Within 2 weeks of her last debulking surgery, all of Zia’s warts grew back with a vengeance! She’s had her third CPV vaccine from but her immune system hasn’t kicked in to start helping us yet.

Desperate to slow this down, I connected with the amazing boarded Dermatologist, Dr. Anthea Schick, at in Scottsdale. I drove up to see her the very next day and we sedated Zia to perform more aggressive liquid nitrogen cryo on some of the larger lesions. The tissue will die over the next 3-5 days and hopefully her immune system will wake up as it cleans out these areas so it can fight the virus in the rest of her oral cavity.

It really feels like the Wild West out here as we try everything and race the clock. I have to remind myself it was just over 6 weeks ago that I adopted her in terrible condition and she needs time to get healthy. Dr. Schick and Dr. Jessica Mobley, boarded Oncologist, are plugging away to research any other options to help Zia. I’m so grateful to have them in our corner.

In other news…she has decided cats are friends 💜

Zia Update! One week post-op and she’s using her mouth to play with toys 🥹 She’s feeling and acting more like a normal puppy! Her third CPV vaccine is tomorrow. It’s hard to watch her mouth heal in by regrowing abnormal wart tissue. Two steps forward then one step back, but staying ahead of it so far. Her biggest achievement is being able to swallow her own pills this week! She throws the cheese ball to the back of her throat like a pelican swallowing a whole fish, but we’re both relieved I’m not having to chase her to pill her anymore. Whenever I get discouraged I look back through my camera roll to remember where we started (last pic). No that’s not pretzel salt…that’s the day she discovered the litter box 🤪

After her first extensive surgery to remove a significant number of oral papillomas, Zia began to heal well within a few days. Unfortunately after only 1 week post- op, many of the warts began to regrow and at the 2 week mark she needed another debulking surgery to try to stay ahead of it. She’s had 2 vaccines and 2 surgeries in 2 weeks poor girl ❤️‍🩹 Zia is strong and tough. Let’s hope her immune system gets strong enough to help fight this too!

She cleared her Giardia infection- we will take that win 🙌

Zia update week 2: Her papilloma lesions are worsening quickly. With her anemia improving, Dr. Jobe is planning surgery and cryoprobe therapy next week, but in the meantime we were able to get ahold of the research team at Georgetown University who is spearheading the CPV vaccine. They overnight shipped 5 doses and she received her first treatment today!
Stayful hopeful 🥺💜

Meet Zia, Dr. Jobe’s new 9 month old puppy! On the anniversary week of Bailey’s passing, this sweet girl was found in the desert and taken to PACC needing lots of medical care. Knowing her love for Aussies, Dr. Jobe went to meet this mini and knew she was her match.

Zia was covered in ticks, emaciated, dehydrated, and suffering from severe papilloma warts overtaking her oral cavity, lips, nose, and eyes causing ulcers. She also has Valley Fever and a healing complete fracture of her back right tibia and fibula bones. Despite her very rough start in life, she has the sweetest and friendliest disposition, and what a survivor!

Join along as Dr. Jobe works to nurse her back to health. Zia’s biggest struggle right now is holding food in her mouth and being able to swallow around all the warts that are painful. It’s just been a few days and she’s already improving 💜
