An occasional loose stool happens.

But frequent or severe diarrhea, blood in the stool, repeated vomiting, weakness, abdominal pain, or signs of dehydration deserve more attention.

Puppies, kittens, senior pets, and pets with other medical conditions can also become dehydrated more quickly.

If your pet seems sick beyond the diarrhea itself, it is time to have them evaluated.

You may notice your pet breathing faster than usual while resting, using their belly more to breathe, stretching their neck out, being unable to settle, or breathing with their mouth open when that is unusual for them.

A curious pet and a wild animal can be a dangerous combination—especially when rabies is a possibility.

This World Rabies Day, make sure your pet’s rabies vaccination is current. In Florida, rabies vaccination is required by law for dogs, cats, and ferrets 4 months of age and older. Taking precautions to limit interactions with wildlife can further reduce the risk of exposure.

If your pet is bitten, scratched, attacked, or has direct contact with a bat, raccoon, fox, or other wild mammal, don’t wait for symptoms to appear. Avoid handling the wild animal yourself and contact a veterinarian promptly for guidance.

If your pet swallowed a cooked bone, monitor them closely and contact your veterinarian for guidance. Don't try to make them vomit unless specifically instructed to do so.
