🐾 Meet the Team Wednesday🐾

It’s Veterinary Technician Week, and we’re excited to introduce you to one of our future RVTs, Katie McFarland! 💙🩺

Katie first joined the Kirk Vet family as an intern while attending Orleans High School, and we quickly knew we wanted her on our team! She was soon hired as a veterinary assistant and has been working toward her dream of becoming a registered veterinary technician ever since. 🎓

Katie is currently attending Purdue University’s Veterinary Technology program and is set to graduate in May 2027! We are so proud of her hard work and dedication and can’t wait for her to join us full-time this spring! 🐾

Katie may be a little quiet, but she has the sweetest heart and loves her patients like they’re her own. ❤️ When she’s not at the clinic or studying, you can find her camping or enjoying a good shopping trip! 🏕️🛍️

At home, Katie is a proud dog mom to TWO black Lab sisters, Bougie & Bumble!🐕‍🦺 She adopted both girls after they served as Canine Educators at Purdue University College of Veterinary Medicine. We love that these two girls found their forever home with Katie! 🖤

Help us celebrate Katie during Vet Tech Week and show her some love in the comments! We’re so lucky to have her on our team and can’t wait to see all the amazing things she accomplishes! 🩺🐾

🐾💙 HAPPY VETERINARY TECHNICIAN APPRECIATION WEEK! 💙🐾

This week, we’re celebrating the incredible veterinary technicians who help keep our patients healthy, comfortable, and safe! 🩺🐶🐱

But what exactly is a vet tech, and what does it take to become a Registered Veterinary Technician (RVT)?

🎓 THE EDUCATION
Becoming an RVT takes dedication, hard work, and a passion for animal health! The typical path includes:
🐾 Completing an accredited veterinary technology program, usually earning a two year associate degree.
🐾 Completing hands-on clinical training.
🐾 Passing the Veterinary Technician National Examination (VTNE).
🐾 Meeting state requirements to become registered, licensed, or certified.

🩺 WHAT DOES A VET TECH DO?
Vet techs are the nurses of veterinary medicine and play a HUGE role in your pet’s care! Their responsibilities include:
🐾 Monitoring anesthesia and patients during surgery.
🐾 Taking X-rays and running laboratory tests.
🐾 Performing dental cleanings and assisting with dental procedures.
🐾 Administering medications and providing nursing care.
🐾 Monitoring vital signs, recognizing changes in a patient’s condition, and helping manage pain.
🐾 Educating pet owners about medications, nutrition, preventative care, and at-home treatment.
🐾 Providing comfort, compassion, and a reassuring touch to patients who may be scared or hurting.

And that’s just the beginning! Vet techs wear MANY hats throughout the day, often juggling multiple responsibilities while putting their patients first. 💕

At Kirk Veterinary Service, we are so thankful for our registered veterinary technicians and every member of our team who works hard behind the scenes to provide the best possible care for your furry family members.

To our vet techs: Thank you for your knowledge, dedication, compassion, and the countless things you do that often go unnoticed. You make a difference in the lives of our patients and their families every single day! 🐾💙

Help us celebrate our amazing veterinary technicians this week! Stay tuned for some vet tech content this week!👩🏽‍⚕️🎉

🐾 MEET THE TEAM WEDNESDAY!🐾

This week, we’re shining the spotlight on Lindsey Stroud! 💙

Lindsey is one of our Certified Veterinary Assistants and Receptionists, and you’ll most often find her holding down the fort at the front desk! 🐶🐱 She also keeps our shelves stocked by handling all of our Hill’s Science Diet food ordering. 📦

When she’s not at Kirk Vet, Lindsey is a true horse girl who loves spending time riding! 🐴💕 She’s also a proud mom to two handsome little boys who keep life busy and full of love! 💙

We’re so thankful to have Lindsey as part of our Kirk Vet family! Be sure to say hi next time you see her at the front desk! 🐾
