Sometimes the goals are simple: enjoy the moment and don’t embarrass yourselves. The little lab that could, Beth, took on the Incredible Dog Challenge, the biggest stage in dock diving against the whippets, mals, and sport mixes who are the literal best of the best in the sport in both diving dog (distance) and Fetch It (AR). Not very often that Beth has “firsts” anymore but here we are with one!
My throws were late and not where they needed to be, but she pulled out a 24’5” and a 24’10” for me anyways. Beth carrying the team like usual! We are getting things figured out since we changed our strategy but she’s loving the change, just needs me to dial things in! Having her debut on a stage that’s notorious for rattling even the best dogs and acting like a seasoned pro is a huge accomplishment in itself.
Coming into this, I knew we didn’t stand a chance at making finals, but it wasn’t about that. It was about seizing the moment we wanted to have 2 years ago when her poorly timed heat cycle kept us out. We weren’t ready last year, but this year I finally felt we were worthy of trying again. The first time in a long time that we’ve been able to seize the moment together without second thought. Not hating my throws in the split second they left my hand, but partying and enjoying making another memory with the best dog, my husband, and friends that are always there to be her cheering squad. We’re in our groove and we’re only looking forward. We’ve fought hard to be back playing at our best on the dock and I can’t wait to see where she takes us next 💜 With a little luck on entries, we can hope her IDC debut is not her final attempt!
Next up: Fetch It, where she really shined!
Thank you Carson Events for a truly ‘incredible’ morning!
