Modern Reptile Shop Working with High Quality Pets to Investment Grade Reptiles & Home of the Reptiles With Podcast Simply put; this is a family effort.

HSR Exotics stems from its roots that focused on Turtle and Tortoise education which was called Half-Shell Ranch. Now, we at HSR Exotics have put our efforts towards breeding quality reptiles. We work with multiple high end Ball Python mutations, different lines of Blue Tongued Skinks, and a curated selection of turtles and tortoises. Also, we work with a circle of trustworthy breeders to supply a variety of different species that we do not breed. Being a small business we hope to bring the incomparable customer service and healthy animals that most big stores and chains cannot supply.

Terrestrial doesn’t mean they only want a flat box.

We get stuck on labels like terrestrial, arboreal, or semi-arboreal and those words can be useful. But they can also limit how we think about enclosure design.

No, blue tongue skinks won’t climb a wall like the iguanids this cage was designed for.

They are not specialized climbers, but when provided with vertical structure, they use it. Sometimes they can even climb far higher than many people would expect.

When I put these blue tongues in this enclosure, these Bluey’s took advantage of the vertical space. Mind you, they were able to see past the walls through the mesh so they probably were just exploring. And believe it or not they both safely walked back down and didn’t just plop backwards and fall.

The point is not “every blue tongue needs a jungle gym.”
The point is: reptiles often show us what they are capable of when we give them the option.

The goal is not to force behavior.
The goal is to allow it.
Reptiles use what we give them.

What is something your reptile uses that surprised you?
