Sarcomas in dogs are a key challenge in veterinary oncology. The most common include soft tissue sarcomas, osteosarcoma, and hemangiosarcoma — but don’t forget the less frequent ones like fibrosarcoma or peripheral nerve sheath tumors.

The diagnostic approach follows a clear pathway:
🔎 Clinical suspicion → firm, fixed, rapidly growing mass.
💉 Fine needle aspirate → often non-diagnostic (a negative result does NOT rule out sarcoma).
🔬 Biopsy & histopathology → the gold standard, histologic grade guides prognosis.
🩻 Clinical staging → thoracic radiographs (3 views), lymph nodes, +/- abdominal ultrasound.

I had so much fun putting this together.

While we all have to know HOW to treat metabolic or digestive issues in cattle, it’s just as important to recognize WHAT we’re looking at in the first place.

That’s why I create so many visual study resources:

1️⃣ They make complex anatomy clear and memorable
2️⃣ They help you instantly connect structure to function—and to disease

Because if you can’t recognize it, you risk missing a key step in diagnosis and patient care.

In general practice, we don’t always get to see detailed anatomy like this up close… at least not often enough to feel confident.
