Here's Zelda!

So many of our Welsh Terriers that we've bred don’t live local. It's truly wonderful when we do get the opportunity to see our dogs again.

Next week I get to visit with Maisie, who is local, and a few days ago, Rob and Anne made the long trip here with Zelda. They live in beautiful La Conner (Washington State, US), about 2.5 hours each way.

Zelda is one of our retired show dogs, and is 12. She is clearly living a wonderful life filled with adventures and love (I loved hearing how she is known in the town and gets the duck treats from the local business and gets to "hunt" for mice there!).

It was a terrific visit with Zelda and her people. And so nice to see how great she did with the young 6.5 - 7 week old puppies here. Zelda herself had puppies before she left here, and she immediately went into investigation mode.

Good girl Zelda! Your people clearly love you.

One of the daily rituals here at Darwyn …. Back and forth between Michael and I. All of our dogs here are like this.

We had wonderful visitors here at Darwyn, as they were in the area, getting some great puppy snuggles in.

Alison, who lives in Saskatoon (Saskatchewan) has an 8.5 year old girl that I bred. Her girl is a daughter of Mickey and Zora (and Morgana’s litter sister). She and her mom were in Vancouver for a vacation and stopped in here on their way to their next stop - actually, Molly’s owner in the Okanagen (Stella).

We had all 9 puppies with us, as well as Molly ( the mom to the slightly younger litter) and Robbie. Molly’s litter is 3.5 weeks old and Maddie’s litter is 4 weeks old tomorrow.

The adult girl in the photos is Molly (who is clippered now). The other adult is Robbie. Hard to tell the pups apart. The pups aren’t yet doing much, but it was still enjoyable for all.

Maddie:

Robbie;

Hope you enjoy the photos and videos!

With the New York trip a few weeks ago being such a whirlwind trip (and life back home being full-on), I forgot to update this page with the results. Draco was awarded BOS (which in this case was the "best male Welsh Terrier" at Westminster Kennel Club's 150th show in New York.

I was happy to be there to watch and support him and his wonderful handler, Katheryn Murray. Also very happy that Alexandra O'Connell-Hall and her two daughters joined the trip. Beyond the dog show, and talking dogs with many, at the New Yorker Hotel, Javits Center, and Madison Square Garden, we went to a fun musical on Broadway, did some shopping at Macy's (of course!), saw New York from the top of Rockefeller Center (in the super cold air -- I think the guard told me it was the equivalent to -30 C up there where we were!) and ate some terrific food!

New York here we come!

It's been 14 years since I was at the Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show and am SO excited about going back!

My last trip was to watch my boy Joe being shown (top BIS winning Welsh Terrier in Canadian history - MBIS GCH Darwyn's I'm Not Arguing That). That was when the breed judging was still held in Madison Square Garden.

Going to the Javits Center will be new for me, but snowstorms in NY are what I remember, and the show always goes on. Years ago there is a famous photo of Walter Goodman carrying his Skye Terrier. It's just one of many examples of the dedication to this show going on.

This year I am going to watch my handsome boy, Draco, with his handler Katheryn Murray.

Draco caught our breeds attention when he won Winners every day he was shown on Montgomery County Kennel Club - Terrier Show weekend, finishing that weekend from the Bred-By Class, and then being awarded Group 3 at Montgomery Bred By in Show!
Since then Draco finished his Grand Championship quickly (in a few weekends) and has been on TV twice - the show televised on Thanksgiving Day (National Dog Show in Philadelphia) and then was awarded BEST OF BREED at AKC NATIONAL in Orlando Florida!

I'm a bit nervous as while I got my confirmation in December of him getting his entry into Westminster's famous show, I didn't receive the package in the mail from January with the details and entry tickets. It might be our Canadian postal system, I don't know. BUT, my ticket is booked and I am on a red eye flight tonight to New York! Fingers crossed that he's there and I look forward to watching this handsome dog with the magnificent Kate Murray!
I was looking for an appropriate quote about magic to complement Draco's name and this is what I found that I love and think we could all use a bit of right now:

"Where there is kindness, there is goodness, and where there is goodness, there is magic."

Good luck to all - and see you soon!

We don't subscribe to TV here, so I didn't pay attention, but apparently The AKC National Championship Dog Show (the show from a couple of weeks ago in Orlando Florida) was shown on ABC ... and my boy DRACO with Kate made the short list of what was shown on TV!!!!

Thank you to those that messaged me that told me that they saw him on TV!

Cool!

As they posted on TV ....

Draco!

He even has his own webpage now!

And ... the rest of the website is being rebuilt (Michael and I are doing this slowly but surely, but we're getting there). We even bought the Canadian domain for the breed (as a family member that is involved in IT said to me on Christmas ... finally!).
