For many dogs, summer means one thing...

Swimming.

Whether it's the lake, the pool, or a sprinkler in the backyard, water can be a wonderful way for dogs to cool off and have fun. But once the adventure is over, their coat still needs a little attention.

Lake water can leave behind dirt and debris. Pool chemicals can dry the skin and coat. Even clean water can stay trapped in a thick coat, creating the perfect environment for hot spots or skin irritation if it isn't dried thoroughly.

Don't forget about the ears, either. Moisture left inside the ear canal—especially after frequent swimming—can create an environment where ear infections are more likely to develop. Gently drying the ears after swimming and keeping them clean can go a long way toward preventing problems.

Summer adventures and coat care go hand in hand.

A few extra minutes after swimming can help prevent problems that are much harder to fix later.
