Our Story
I am glad you chose a Boston terrier to be your companion. They are excellent dogs, very intelligent, loving and lively. They require minimum grooming (daily teeth brushing and eye wiping, a bath or 2 a week, nail trimming/dremmel twice a month, ear cleanings as needed) but a lot of exercise. In Florida they cannot stay in the heat for long as they easily overheat due to dark coat and short noses. They need top nutrition for proper digestion, and are sensitive to fleas and pollen. They always require training as they will be your long time besties and training really never ends... once one lesson is learned there is always some more to learn or at least improve.
Do you have a fenced yard? Your boston will need to run free a lot. I do not recommend dog parks as often unruly dogs are also there and can harm your dog as somehow they are easily aroused by bostons and see them as prey. Your boston needs to be crate trained but once completely housebroken the crate becomes his den, to take breaks or sleep at night, car travel, or for when left unsupervised for short periods of time.
I strongly recommend you find a reputable local training facility, check the AKC pages under Obedience clubs, those are affiliated with AKC and also usually way more affordable.
I ask the new owners that the puppies train to achieve an AKC title of your choice before they are 3 years old, to make sure the new owners enjoy their dogs to their full potential and able to maintain a lifelong healthy relationship with the new family. They can either be shown in Conformation or performance events, such as Obedience, Agility, Coursing, Dock Diving, Tracking, etc. I may be able to help you with some of that. Bostons are very versatile and trainable but require consistency in training. I state in my contract that they cannot be given away or sold unless offered back to me first, no questions asked, I will take any back any time if you are not happy or circumstances change. I also have the right to receive updates on the dog's care throughout his life and it would be best if you provide a few references, including your previous vets and trainers.
