☀️ Summer Heat Safety for Pets 🐾
Florida summers can be dangerous for our furry friends. Even on a warm day, temperatures can rise quickly and put pets at risk for heatstroke—a life-threatening emergency.

🐶 Keep your pets safe by remembering these simple tips:

💧 Always provide access to fresh, cool water.
🌳 Limit outdoor activities to the early morning or evening when it's cooler.
🏠 Keep pets indoors or in shaded, well-ventilated areas during the hottest part of the day.
🚗 Never leave your pet in a parked car, even for a few minutes. Temperatures inside can become deadly in no time.
🐾 Check the pavement before walks. If it's too hot for your hand for 7 seconds, it's too hot for their paws!
⚠️ Know the signs of heatstroke:
Excessive panting
Drooling
Bright red or pale gums
Weakness or stumbling
Vomiting or diarrhea
Collapse or seizures
If you think your pet may be overheating, move them to a cool area, offer small amounts of water, and contact your veterinarian immediately. Cooling should begin right away, but avoid using ice-cold water, which can make the situation worse.
🐕🐈 A little extra caution during the summer months can help keep your pets happy, healthy, and safe. Stay cool out there! 💙☀️

🐾 Monthly Prevention Matters! 🐾
Did you know that parasites can affect your pet year-round — even indoor pets? Keeping your dogs and cats on monthly prevention is one of the easiest and most important ways to protect their health.
✅ Protects against:
• Fleas
• Ticks
• Heartworms
• Intestinal parasites (worms)
• Skin irritation and disease transmission
Many parasites are difficult to see and can cause serious health problems before symptoms even appear. Some can even be transmitted to people and other pets in the home.
Prevention is safer, easier, and far less costly than treating parasite-related illness later on.
💙 Keep your pets protected every month, all year long. If you’re unsure which prevention is best for your pet, our team is happy to help!

As Veterinary Receptionist Week comes to a close, we just want to take a moment to celebrate the heart of our front desk 💚🐾

Our receptionists at Downtown Pet Hospital are so much more than a friendly face they’re the calm in the chaos, the comforting voice on the phone, and the ones who keep everything running smoothly behind the scenes. From scheduling appointments to supporting worried pet parents, their compassion and dedication never go unnoticed.

We are beyond grateful for everything you do, today and every day. Thank you for being the first smile our clients see and the last one they remember ✨

Here is Dr. McCully performing a cystotomy on a 10 year old spayed female Shichon!

Nala had multiple bladder stones in different sizes, which can cause pain, trouble urinating, blood in the urine, and infections. Because of the number and size of the stones, surgery was the best option.

The stones have been sent out for testing to find out what type they are. This helps us decide on the best diet and care plan to help prevent new stones from forming.

Thanks to surgery, Nala is now more comfortable and on the road to recovery 💚
