๐พ Brushing Your Dog the Right Way: It's More Than Just Making Them Look Cute! ๐พ
Many pet parents brush the top of the coat and think they're doneโbut hidden mats often form underneath, close to the skin. These painful tangles can trap moisture, restrict airflow, and even lead to skin infections.
โจ The secret? Line brushing!
Here's how to do it:
๐ถ Start at the feet and work your way up.
๐ถ Separate the coat into small sections.
๐ถ Brush one thin layer at a time, making sure the brush reaches all the way to the skin.
๐ถ Follow with a metal comb. If the comb glides through easily, you've done a great job!
Brushes by coat type:
๐ชฎ Slicker Brush โ Best for doodles, poodles, bichons, and other curly or fluffy coats.
๐ชฎ Pin Brush โ Great for long, silky coats like Yorkies, Shih Tzus, Maltese, and Afghan Hounds.
๐ชฎ Rubber Curry Brush โ Perfect for short-coated breeds like Labs, Pugs, and Beagles to remove loose hair and stimulate healthy skin.
๐ชฎ Undercoat Rake โ Ideal for double-coated breeds like Golden Retrievers, Huskies, German Shepherds, and Australian Shepherds during shedding season.
๐ก Pro Tip: Never skip the metal comb! If the comb catches, there's still a tangle hiding that needs attention.
Regular brushing:
โ๏ธ Prevents painful mats
โ๏ธ Reduces shedding
โ๏ธ Keeps skin healthy
โ๏ธ Helps you spot lumps, bumps, or parasites early
โ๏ธ Makes grooming appointments faster and more comfortable
