Before you bring a puppy home, picture a regular Tuesday. 🐶

There’s work, errands, dinner to make… and your puppy still needs potty breaks, supervision, play, and help learning to settle.

You don’t need to do everything perfectly. Having a realistic plan for their care makes a big difference.

🤍 Who will handle potty breaks?
🤍 What’s the plan when you’re away?
🤍 How will training fit into your everyday routine?

And remember: good things take time. Much like bringing home a newborn, bringing home a puppy comes with an adjustment period. Your routines change, you’re learning about each other, and some days feel harder than you expected.

Give yourself grace—and give your puppy grace, too. They’re learning how to live in your world. The bond, trust, and routines you’re building take time. You can love your puppy and still have hard days. 🤍

One of the easiest ways to make potty training harder is giving your new puppy too much freedom too soon. 🐶

Start small, supervise closely, and slowly expand their space as they show you they’re ready. And if it takes a few months before they’re ready for another level of the house, that’s completely normal.

Freedom is earned slowly. 🤍

We learned this one from experience 🤍

We had a puppy go home and the family was so excited. She was being played with all day, passed around, meeting everyone, and just had a really full first weekend.

By the end of it, she was shaking, acting weak, and seemed really lethargic. Of course, that was scary.

But what she really needed was rest.

After slowing everything down and giving her a quiet day to sleep and decompress, she was back to herself.

That’s why we tell families now: your puppy’s first weekend home should honestly be pretty boring.

Potty → play → potty → nap.

Keep things calm, let them sleep, and save the big family introductions for later. 🤍

Keep their world small at first, protect their nap time, and don’t change too much all at once. Those first few days are a huge adjustment.
