Happy Veterinary Technician & Assistant Week!

To the ladies who keep the wheels turning, the horses standing, and our lives from completely falling apart…thank you!

Let’s be honest, as equine vets, we are technically responsible for our patients...but we all know the techs and assistants are the ones who actually keep us functioning. They know where everything is, somehow find the one piece of equipment we need and swear we already looked for, hold the horses, carry the equipment, clean up the mess, keep us on schedule (the best they can) and occasionally remind us that we forgot to each lunch or drink water.

All jokes aside, the work you do is so much more than keeping us vets organized. You are an essential part of patient care... you notice the little changes, comfort patients through hard days, work through the long days and difficult cases with us and give your time and energy to making sure every horse gets the best care possible.

If you happen to see any of our team members this week, please join us in thanking them for their hard work and dedication! Equine medicine is a team sport, and we are incredibly lucky to have such hardworking, compassionate and dedicated people beside us. You gals rock, thank you for everything you do!

Cricket thinks her shockwave treatments are pretty great - she licks, chews and then...promptly falls asleep.

As a reminder, Shockwave is a non-invasive therapy we offer that uses high-energy sound waves to promote and improve quality of healing. It also provides pain relief.

Shockwave can be used to treat a variety of conditions, including but not limited to: ligament/tendon injuries, arthritis, navicular pain, neck and back pain.

It is important that your horse be evaluated by a veterinarian prior to shockwave therapy as a diagnosis for the source of pain will guide specific treatment recommendations. If you have any questions about if your horse could benefit from shockwave therapy, please do not hesitate to reach out!

We are seeing a sudden rise in laminitis cases! Especially those horses with underlying metabolic diseases, such as PPID (equine Cushing's) or insulin resistance. Due to the spiking sugar that will only continue into the Fall, we highly recommend restricting their access to pasture entirely, or using a muzzle (depending on what your veterinarian recommendations for your individual horse).

If you are concerned that your horse may have laminitis (common early signs are resistance to walk forward, walking "stiff" or "choppy", or leaning back off of front feet) please contact us sooner than later, as early treatment can be key to effectively getting control of laminitis.

Have you thanked your farrier lately? This week is National Farriers Week, so let's show them some love! These talented men and women work so incredibly hard to keep your horse comfortable and they deserve every little bit of gratitude we can give.

Thank you to all of our great farriers - everyone at Country View Equine Clinic appreciates your dedication to the horses in our community. As vets, we know we often ask for a lot of favors on behalf of our patients and we hope you know how much it means to us when you jump in on a case that you are by no means obligated to.

Everyone, tell your farrier how much you appreciate them, and take some time to ask about and learn the "little things" that you can do to make a big difference in their day.

Today, we have a very special shout out to make for a very special human! James is not only a friend and client of ours, but he is also our go-to guy for horses that need to be hauled to the clinic for routine appointments or emergencies.

Thunderstorm, snow storm, middle of the night - James is a big reason we’ve been able to get many horses the care that they need in urgent situations, safely.
