Tonight, a kind Good Samaritan reached out for help after finding a grounded barred owl in the Fanno Creek area of Portland. Sadly, this beautiful owl did not survive. 💔
One of the hardest realities of wildlife rescue is that by the time a wild animal is sick or injured enough to allow humans to approach, they are often already in very bad shape. They can decline incredibly quickly, even when help is on the way. Wildlife rehabilitation is difficult, and the number of patients who recover and return to the wild is heartbreakingly low. It’s why we celebrate every single success so fiercely.
But there’s something else we want to share.
In a world that can feel overwhelmingly sad and unkind, we are constantly reminded that most people are GOOD. People who stop their cars, make phone calls, sit with injured animals, and refuse to look the other way. People who care about a little life that isn’t theirs.
Those are the people who keep us going. ❤️
To the Good Samaritans who called tonight, thank you. We know how difficult it is to witness an animal suffering, especially when the outcome isn’t what any of us hoped for. We’re keeping you in our hearts, too.
And to this beautiful barred owl, we’re blowing a little kiss into the wind for you tonight. 🌬️🦉
Thank you to our community for continuing to remind us that kindness is everywhere. Sometimes we just need to look for it. ❤️
