Many people wonder why their farrier bill is so expensive…..this is $300+ worth of supplies.

People often see the price of a farrier visit — but not the cost behind the work.

Farriers don’t just show up with a rasp and a hammer. Every trim and shoeing appointment depends on thousands of dollars in tools, supplies, fuel, education, and maintenance.

Each supply run can cost us hundreds of dollars. Shoes, nails, pads, glue, hoof repair materials, rasps, drill bits, anvils, forging tools, and specialty tools add up fast. And Most tools wear down constantly and have to be replaced regularly because they’re used on multiple horses every single day.

Then there’s the truck setup: fuel, tires, insurance, trailer maintenance, propane, and the cost of keeping a mobile workshop running reliably.

Many farriers also invest heavily in continuing education to stay current on biomechanics, lameness, corrective work, and modern hoof care techniques — because every horse deserves the best care we can offer.

Farrier work is skilled trade work, heavy labor, and continuing education all rolled into one profession.

So when you pay your farrier, you’re not just paying for time spent under your horse. You’re paying for years of experience, specialized equipment, physical labor, and the ability to keep your horse sound and comfortable.

Good hoof care is never “just a trim.”
