We all know all good horses go to heaven without their tails, but what about the ones that also go without their mane? Those horses are something truly special. Where every hair is carefully braided, banded, and snipped, to be passed along to the many hands and hearts of those who will miss them the most. These hearts extend well past their own owners and land delicately where they are needed most.
On October 7th we said goodbye to a horse I have had the privilege of knowing for 8 years, our sweet Zoie. Zoie was one of the most work driven horses I have ever met. She was kind, brave, and unbelievably patient. Whether it was a rider’s first time walking alone, first jump, first show, or taking a new rider down the trail, Zoie could do it- and she would do it happily!
There has not been a Three Beat Farms without Zoie, and that is going to be a hard adjustment. We truly would not be where we are today without her, and I owe a lot of the success of our young riders to her.
Death is hard, and complicated, and sometimes no matter how much you love them it’s never enough to keep them. I will cherish every memory, every first, and every smile that Zoie brought to each person who has been able to know her.
Thank you Zoie for loving us back until the very end, and thank you to Elizabeth for sharing her wonderful girl with us all these years. Zoie— I know your horsie heaven is full of the greenest hay and the most lush grass, say “Hi” to the boys for us I know they will be excited to see you.
