Manufacturer recall on two lots of Adequan I.M. 500mg/5 mL single-dose 5mL vials due to glass fibers found in some samples.

We have checked our current stock and they are unaffected. However, if you have a box sitting around or have ordered Adequan from an online pharmacy please check the lot number (located on the bottom of the box and on each vial).

If you find that you have one of recalled lots please do not administer to your horse and contact the issuing pharmacy for information on returns.

The weather outside is frightful, and the fire is NOT delightful.

Right now the best thing you can do for your horses is no forced exercise, provide plenty of water and refresh it frequently. Wet down hay to limit any dust intake to reduce additional respiratory irritants.

AQI levels can provide a general guideline. We consider all horses to be a "sensitive group" and recommend eliminating forced exercise at levels over 100.

Remember that even in the best of barns they are still breathing the same air as outside and it can stagnate further within a building. You can help improve circulation with fans (closed/sealed motor only).

The current situation is expected to improve in a couple days, but take caution putting horses fully back to work right away and give them extra days to recover if any excessive coughing or nasal discharge is noted.

Passing on the love of horses and veterinary medicine to the next generation! It was a pleasure to have an informative session with one of our local Girl Scout troops working to earn their horse badge. Big thanks to Kelly for letting us come out and to Serenity for being the perfect demo pony!

Cresty necks! Did you know there is actually a scale for evaluating just how cresty that neck really is?

One study showed that ponies with a cresty neck score of equal to or greater than 3 had 5 times greater odds of being insulin dysregulated.

Insulin dysregulation is one of the top causes of laminitis, therefore cresty necks are something to pay attention to!

If you're having weight or cresty neck troubles with your horse or pony we can help set you up with an overall exam, nutrition evaluation, and possible bloodwork to more fully evaluate your equine companion's health status. Our goal is always to try and prevent laminitis rather than just hoping it won't happen.

Dental month is a wrap!

Our hard-working doctors and assistants completed 91 dental exams & equilibrations this month (with a few tooth extractions thrown in just for fun).

While we especially celebrate dental health in February, routine dental care can be done any time of the year and is important for every equine. As seen in this photo this youngster had a broken and retained (didn't fall out when it was supposed to) baby incisor that was found during his routine exam. The offending tooth was extracted which should relieve discomfort and allow his other teeth to move into a more normal position. Young and old: all life stages can benefit from a thorough dental exam!
