Chinchilla Amore We're a small pet & prize winning show quality breeder of chinchillas. Member of ECBC & MCBA We are Chinchillas Amore ! We handle our chin babies every day.

We are a small ranch located in Orangevale, California (right outside of Sacramento). We have many wonderful pets including our Chinchillas. This is my hobby with a focused on chinchilla care, education and to breed pedigreed show quality chinchillas that will make great pets! Our chins are use to all sorts of different noises of a busy family of 5 with several musicians, noisy teens, daily vacuuming and a yappy but happy Pomeranian. So our kits hear all this in utero and why we feel our chins don't seems to get stressed as easily like chins typically do. Making these exceptional pets. Our chins come from pedigreed bloodlines from only reputable breeders. I do take in rescues and surrenders. These are never to be bred and we spend a lot of time socializing and caring for them. I'm not a 501c. So all care and veterinary needs comes out of pocket. I love all chinchillas and feel all reputable breeders should give back to do their part for chinchillas in need. My family with help from several foster families rehabilitate and socialize many each year. We've been very successful placing most into good new homes typically within 6 months or less. Any with severe behavioral or health issues are always welcome to live their lives out at our home and be spoiled. Our oldest Chinchilla's Birthdate is March 23, 1994. We treasure him and he's still in excellent health. I am a proud member of Empress Chinchilla Breeders Cooperative. www.chinchillaamore.com

These 2 are best buddies. Yes, one of them is missing her ears. It doesn't cause her any pain and doesn't slow her down. When this does happen, it's typically when they are a kit. Petunia's ears happened at birth. She does require some special care due to missing her ears. So, she will be staying a permanent Chinchilla Amore resident. Chinchillas' ears help them regulate their body temperature. So we are extra careful to keep her cool. Even on triple digit days, our chinchilla room is always under 72°F.

Look at the natural habitat from where our domestic chinchillas came from. This is a good example of why tall cages are not a great design for a chinchilla. A wide cage is better. I've seen countless preventable injuries to domestic chinchillas from improper tall cages and wheels. In the wild, they stay low and scurry from rocks and bushes.

Wild chinchilla habitat. That's me next to a Puya plant. See that dirt - that's what the wild ones bathe in- no volcanic ash. Also, that is the height of the habitat. They are adapted to scurry around on the ground. No climbing nails- not long, sharp, or hooked. Most cages are taller than anything a wild chinchilla would jump.

HEAT ADVISORY REMINDER
Chinchillas need to stay cool and require a/c during hot weather. We are experiencing a heat wave in many parts of California. Chinchillas should be kept at 74°F or below. At 76°F they get very uncomfortable, and as temps climb to 80, they DIE! We do offer boarding. So please take appropriate precautions to keep your chinchilla(s) cool. Frozen water bottles, chill stones, and fans DON'T WORK to keep a chinchilla cool enough. They need air condition that's at 74 or below.
