A little look into Saturday’s public access day at Denio’s Farmers Market which gave our teams a real world training environment filled with crowds, noise, and constant movement.

Two therapy dogs and two service dogs, one in training, worked through public access tasks, focusing on handler engagement, neutrality, and task reliability in a busy setting. Therapy dogs supported calm public interaction, while service dogs stayed task focused through high distraction areas.

A standout moment was a funny photo of Alistair mid recall, caught right in the middle of returning to his handler, showing both progress and personality in a real training moment.

Sessions like this are essential for building dependable public access skills outside controlled environments.

Althea Canines specializes in psychiatric and mobility service dogs, with training designed for real world consistency.

We couldn’t be more thankful to the community we serve and our friends and neighbors who help us do that. For a second year in a row we exceeded our fundraising goals. Without your support we would not be able to do what we do, lifting up and providing for our community. Thank you is never enough.

Today is Big Day of Giving, and we are asking for your support in helping change lives through expertly trained service dogs. ❤️

At Althea Canines, we believe a service dog can truly change and even save a life.

For individuals living with physical disabilities, PTSD, anxiety, trauma related conditions, and other life altering challenges, these dogs provide far more than companionship. They create stability during panic attacks, assist with mobility and daily tasks, provide safety in overwhelming situations, and help restore confidence and independence that disability can take away.

This year, we have $2,000 in matching funds available, and our goal is to raise an additional $2,500 to fully utilize those funds and maximize the impact for current and future service dog teams.

Your donation directly helps fund:
• Specialized service dog training
• Mobility assistance training
• Psychiatric response training
• Placement and ongoing client support

Training and placing a service dog is an extensive process, but the result is life changing. Every dollar donated helps bring hope, healing, safety, and greater independence to someone who needs it most.

When you support Althea Canines, you are not simply donating to a nonprofit. You are helping create life changing partnerships between people and highly trained service dogs.

Please consider donating, sharing, or helping spread awareness today. Together, we can continue transforming lives, one service dog at a time. Link in Bio and will be tagged in stories for easy access. https://mtyc.co/eesnuf

May the 4th be with you ✨

Even in a room with another dog, a service dog’s job doesn’t stop.

What you may see is trained neutrality no lunging, no distraction, no breaking focus.
That level of control is what allows a service dog to safely support their handler in the real world.

Not every dog is expected to behave like this.
But every service dog must.

🚫 Distracting a working dog, even briefly, can interrupt medical tasks
🚫 “Friendly” interactions are still distractions
🚫 Not all dogs you see in public have this level of training

✅ Give space
✅ Respect the work
✅ Let them do their job

The force isn’t magic… though Magic sure is doing a good job of showing that… it’s training, consistency, and trust.

This is a side of service dog work that is not talked about enough.

These dogs are living partners who change lives, and one of the hardest realities is knowing one day we may have to say goodbye.

Otis was a key part of Wednesday’s class and an irreplaceable support to JB. As JB takes time to heal, we wanted to share this to help educate others on the depth of this kind of loss.

Please keep JB in your thoughts and help us honor Otis’s incredible legacy. 🤍🌈🐾
