6:30 am… waiting in line to drop off 30 dozen eggs, a nifty laying box and a few light Brahma at the auction… not to mention all the hatching eggs! The orpings have given us about 7 and a half dozen eggs in less than two weeks and we had no one interested in buying them.

Today we had the pleasure of meeting Corrine and Tony of Seven Acres Farm! They took home 20 of our laying hens. They have a thriving egg business and we are happy to help them out since ours was just floundering around. We hope to meet up with them again in the future, even though we are about an hour away from each other. Maybe when we have more time on our hands we can figure out their method to amazing egg sales!

Looks like we have a buyer for a majority of our laying hens that we were raising for eating eggs. It will be nice not having to take 30+ dozen to auction before the sun even rises in the future. We will still have a small handful of hens, but the eggs should come in at a better pace for how often we seem to be selling them. The part that seems to suck most is that when we started over this year, I had a lot of people asking for eggs and just like I thought, now that we have eggs, those people aren’t interested anymore… I’m beginning to think they were just being those people knowing we didn’t have eggs… 😮‍💨 for anyone who is curious, about every three days, our layers are costing us $24.

We don’t have many egg layers, but I’m considering downsizing our egg layers to even less… got eggs coming out of the ears and no one who wants to buy them. It’s never helpful that we live off of a backroad that doesn’t see a lot of traffic, so a farm stand doesn’t work well here. We may just have to commit to strictly breeders and break what few hearts we have that buy eggs on a regular basis. Just something we may be considering. Everyone says they love fresh unwashed eggs but lord knows we can never get them sold, even offering delivery, which a lot of people don’t do because it just wastes time and gas.

Okay! I’ve got eggs coming out of the waazoo from our Orpington pen and already had to put two whole dozen into the eating egg pile because they passed the two week shelf life. It’s time for a free hatching egg giveaway! Your choice or Orpington (Buff, Blue & Blue Buff mix) or Brahma eggs. (Mostly Light Brahma, but a young gold partridge cockerel I stuck in the pen is maturing over the past week, so could be light or gold partridge.)

We are only about 5 and a half weeks away from Thanksgiving! Fluff & Feathers still has a few locally raised and processed holiday turkeys left in the freezer, ready to go to someone else’s freezer! Sizes left include a 14 pounder, 15 pounder and a 21 pounder. Our price is still cheaper than average market value for similar turkeys once other places start to sell! Yes! You can go get one cheap from the store, but we can boast that our turkeys were raised antibiotic free and might even taste better than your store bought turkey. Give our turkeys a try! We hope to bring you more locally raised turkeys next year if we sell our remaining few that haven’t flown away yet! Message us for more information!
