The Orange County Animal Shelter provides safe haven and vet care for hundreds of animals of all ages and descriptions each year. Happily, we have had great success promoting our animals on Petfinder and at Petsmart adoption events. Dozens of animals have been adopted by people who have come from many other states. If so, please let us know! The greater our reach the more homes we will find for the animals in our care. Although we are about 1.5 hours away from the Washington, D.C. metro area, it is an easy drive. You can even make a day of it and stop off at country stores, Civil War battlefield sites and a huge mall complex in Spotsylvania/Fredericksburg. And after all, what is a few hours in drive time when you will be meeting your new best friend? If you need help getting here, call us for directions.

Soulful Honey — Looking for a Soft Landing
Those eyes. That face. And a lady who knows exactly what she wants out of life.
Honey: "I'm a mature gal looking for a soft landing. Somewhere comfortable, where I can relax and enjoy the finer things in life."
Us: "That sounds lovely, Honey."
Honey: "And TREATS!"
Us: "Yes, Honey. Treats will come."
Our sweet Honey has come such a long way. She arrived terribly underweight, and today she's looking healthier, filling out beautifully, and even growing her coat back!
She's a lover of all things FOOD, a little selective about her canine company, and completely unapologetic about knowing what she likes.
Honey isn't looking to reinvent herself. She's looking for a place where she can finally enjoy being herself.
A soft landing, a comfortable spot, and perhaps a well-stocked treat jar.
Especially the treat jar. 🤎

HELLOOOOO, HOOOOOMANS! DO I HAVE YOUR ATTENTION?!

Austin here! I've been sticking my nose into a little shelter business, and OHHHH, have I got some interesting news for YOU!

I've been hearing whispers about Lucky Paws Casino Night, and apparently there are some pretty fabulous goodies up for grabs!

A Gold Cup racing package? A weekend getaway? Dooney & Bourke purses? A bourbon basket?! And something about FredNats tickets and a signed helmet!

There are beautiful pieces of artwork, gift certificates, holiday goodies, and even a few MYSTERY baskets!

MYSTERY BASKETS?! Now you've really got my attention!

And it's all happening November 14 at the beautiful Madison at the Mill!

What makes this evening especially wonderful is the generosity of the businesses, artists, and neighbors who have stepped up to support our shelter animals.

Proceeds benefit the Emergency Veterinary Fund, helping provide critical medical care when our animals need it most.

So, HOOOOOMANS, if you're looking for a fun evening out, a little excitement, and a chance to support a wonderful cause, Lucky Paws Casino Night might just be your lucky night!

Who wins? Well, that's part of the fun!

And thanks to this amazing community, our shelter animals already have something to celebrate.

A Little S'more to Love!
Sometimes the biggest transformations aren't about how a dog looks. They're about watching them discover that life can be pretty wonderful.
S'more arrived at our shelter in May as part of an Animal Control case. She was frightened, uncertain, and needed time to find her footing.
And oh, how this girl has blossomed!
At 6.5 years old and 63 pounds, this beautiful Great Pyrenees has been showing us more and more of her personality.
She's discovered the joy of a good walk, the freedom to be ridiculously silly in the play yards, and the pleasure of simply enjoying her surroundings. And when that fluffy tail gets going? You can't help but smile!
And apparently, S'more has developed a little crush on our resident goofy oddball, Spike! We're not entirely sure what she sees in that wonderfully weird fellow, but hey, the heart wants what the heart wants!
S'more has done amazingly well with most of the dogs she's met, keeps her kennel clean, and continues to build confidence with new experiences.
She may still need a little time to feel comfortable in unfamiliar situations, but give her that opportunity, and there's a wonderfully goofy, sweet girl waiting to shine.
She's spent nearly five months learning that the world doesn't have to be so scary. Now we'd love to see her experience the very best of it—with a family of her own.
