Meet Boston Terrier puppies Minnie & Mickey, getting their very first well-check visit — and yes, that is squeeze cheese on a tongue depressor, courtesy of the ever-resourceful vet tech Maddie. Keeping wiggly puppies still takes creativity!

Well-check visits are one of the most important things you can do for a new puppy. Here is why:

Early health screenings catch issues before they become serious and vaccinations get started on the right schedule. Core vaccines protect against distemper, parvovirus, and other life-threatening illnesses that puppies are especially vulnerable to.

Parasite prevention begins early. Intestinal worms, fleas, and heartworm can be identified and treated before they cause lasting damage.

And perhaps most importantly, it helps puppies learn that the vet is a safe place. Positive early experiences with handling, strangers, and new environments shape a calmer, more confident adult dog.

📌3 Days: Initial Decompression & Overwhelm

Kittens may hide, show fear, or refuse to eat/drink due to initial stress and being overwhelmed by the new environment. Provide a "safe space," such as a small, quiet room or a cat carrier, and let them come to you.

📌3 Weeks: Learning Routine & Building Trust

Kittens are settling in, learning your routine, and feeling more comfortable. Behavioral issues like hiding or accidents may diminish, and the kitty will start to show their true personality.

📌3 Months: Feeling at Home

The kitten has fully acclimated to the home and trusts its new environment, and a sense of security and bond has been established.

Patience: Let the kitten adjust at their own pace.

A significant portion of Aussies are born with a naturally bobbed (short) tail — a rare genetic trait among dogs. What a special afternoon! 🐾 Clay Humane was so honored to attend the WE Cherry Elementary Spay Cafe, where Ms. Harp’s incredible class put on a performance that had everyone smiling. These young students not only entertained their guests — they’re helping animals in need. Proceeds from the event go directly to support local animal rescue groups, and we are so grateful! Thank you to every little rockstar in that classroom. You are making a difference!
