Meet Manteiga aka “Mani”
Mani is a 13 year old canine that transferred to our ER team for an esophageal foreign body(FB) on a Friday afternoon. Our team started with minimally invasive endoscopy but the FB was adhered to the esophageal tissue very firmly and we were unable to remove the object or push it into the stomach. At that time we then involved our boarded surgeon Dr McCarthy. After talking about pros and cons with his owners they wanted to proceed with surgical removal. A right lateral thoracotomy and esophagotomy with foreign body removal was successfully performed. He also had an e-tube (feeding tube) placed and chest tubes placed intra-operatively. Mani stayed with us for two days in the ICU and has recovered amazingly so far!!
