Another Black Snowfall tank enjoying a meal 🖤❄️

We’ve been selecting heavily for dense spots that cover every centimeter of the body, from head to tail. Each generation means watching them develop, choosing which shrimp to keep as breeders, and separating those that don’t fit the direction we’re working toward.

It’s still a work in progress, but we’re seeing that coverage become more consistent. Getting a tank to this point takes time, patience, and dedication through many rounds of selection.

We use very few products in our breeding tanks. Our focus stays on stable water, consistent care, and careful breeder selection. There’s no product that replaces the work of choosing the next generation.

🌨️ Black Snowfalls 🌨️

A tank full of shrimp with similar coloration and patterns doesn’t happen overnight.

Behind this colony are generations of growing out babies, watching how they develop, and carefully choosing which shrimp stay in the breeding group. Those that don’t fit the direction we’re working toward are moved to other tanks.

Even when a tank looks consistent, the selection continues. Every generation gives us another opportunity to improve, but it takes patience—you need to give the shrimp time to mature before deciding what to keep.

Here at TBshrimp, this is a big part of the work that happens behind the scenes. Hours spent observing, sorting, and netting, followed by months of waiting to see the results.

There’s no shortcut to consistency. Just steady selection, dedication, and a lot of patience. 🦐

✨ Metallic Boas take time to show their potential.

These young boas might not catch everyone’s eye just yet, but we’ve watched shrimp like these change drastically over an 8-month period. Their coloration, metallic sheen, and patterns continue to develop as they mature. 🦐

It’s easy to want the finished look right away. But for us, watching that transformation is one of the best parts of keeping them.

A young shrimp’s appearance is only one stage of its development. Give them time to grow before judging what they can become.

Patience is part of the process—and we love every bit of it. 💙

Some favorites never change ❤️🐅

Red Fancy Tigers are still my all-time favorite shrimp to this day. That deep red against the white, the tiger markings, and the different patterns on each one—I could sit and watch this tank all day. 🔥

Even with all the varieties we keep, these always pull me back.

What’s the one shrimp you never get tired of keeping? 👇

Time for a selection in this growout tank! 🦐

Hornets, Mint Tigers, Red Wasps, and Metallic Purples have been growing out together. Now they’re getting bigger, it’s easier to see their colors and patterns and start sorting them.

Each type will be separated into its own tank, where we’ll continue selecting for the traits we want to carry into the next generation.

This is a big part of the work behind our shrimp—watching how they develop, selecting carefully, and choosing which ones move forward in our breeding groups. 👀

Time to net the babies out of our Red Boa tank and move them into a growout tank! 🔴🦐

Once the little ones reach this stage, moving them gives us a better look at how each shrimp is developing. We can watch their red coloration and patterns come in, then select the ones we want to keep growing for the next generation.

Meanwhile, the breeding tank has room for the next wave of babies. Seeing a tank full of young Red Boas never gets old. 👀

Would you like to see how they look after a few months in growout?

❄️❄️ Red Blizzard Phenotype – Desired Selection Criteria

Pictured is a G1 Red Blizzard, our top grade.

• Base color: Rich orange-red with black undertones that create strong contrast, sometimes producing a subtle blueish sheen. Spots range from white to golden.

• Pattern: Heavy, chaotic, and dense galaxy spotting with bold coverage that creates an intense storm effect. The individual speckles are very small and often blend together to form a “blanket of snow.”

• Texture: The armor-like exoskeleton is less pronounced due to the dense spotting, but a fully mature shrimp should show complete shell development, including on the legs. 🌨️

A closer look at our Hornet growout tank during feeding 🐝🦐

You can see the adults and babies together, with that orange coloration already showing in the next generation. We select this tank for strong orange color and keep watching how the young shrimp develop as they grow. 🧡

Our approach to breeding and keeping shrimp is simple: stable water, consistent care, and careful selection. You don’t need a shelf full of products to raise beautiful shrimp.

Take a close look at the babies—can you spot the tiniest one? 👀
