Has your veterinarian ever recommended switching your dog to a hydrolyzed diet?
Hydrolyzed protein prescription diets are specially formulated for dogs with food allergies or sensitivities. In these diets, proteins are broken into very small pieces, called peptides, that the immune system is less likely to recognize and react to.
Veterinarians may use these diets during food trials or to help manage chronic skin issues, recurrent ear infections, or gastrointestinal upset linked to diet.
Because even small exposures can interfere with a food trial or trigger a reaction, dogs on a hydrolyzed diet should eat only the food prescribed by their veterinarian. That means no treats, table scraps, or flavored medications unless your veterinarian approves them.
Talk with your veterinarian before making any diet changes for your dog.
