It might be September but it is still stupid 🔥 hot! We are using all the tricks to make it is as tolerable as possible. They’ve had frozen treats of 🍎 apples, 🥕 carrots and 🍉 watermelon frozen in an electrolyte solution. They’ve had 🍉 watermelon (and some will even drink the juice from the container at the end 🥰) They’ve found places to rest in the shade. They’ve enjoyed fresh 💦 water in their troughs. They’ve got the creek - my favorite place in this heat - and choose to nap along its bank some days. And 🚿 hosing: SO MUCH HOSING! Yesterday alone everyone got at least two showers. I wasn’t sure I was going to live long enough to hose Star or Gideon as long as they wanted to stand in the cool water but we persevered. 😉 Of course after a long cool shower, there is nothing like a good roll in the pasture. We are surviving the heat but bring on fall!

The weather today is FaNtAsTiC, a welcome break from the crazy heat and humidity, but we are looking back at how we’ve survived the heat. One of the ways has been playing in the hose. They’ve got the creek and shelters, but sometimes it takes a long soak in a cool hose to really feel better. We’ve just got one stubborn hold-out unwilling to try the magic of hosing. Everyone else usually participate with either some playfulness or some serious nap energy.

Pampered Ponies! First there was an added carport that doubles as shade + scratching posts. Then some shade cloths we added, slowly, because there is an old wive’s tale that they eat ponies. Gideon did a SuperMan impersonation and showed everyone there was nothing to fear with the cloths. They got over that and we added a solar fan. It was also highly suspicious for 4.5 minutes, but they were won over yet again. They can regularly be found snoozing under their shelter in the shade. Lots of thanks to the folks who made this possible - it’s a definite hit!
