⭐The Rule of 7:
By now many of you may have seen our posts about the 3-3-3 philosophy (3 days to decompress, 3 weeks to settle, 3 months to feel fully at home) to help rescue dogs settle in. But how about a frame work of 7's?!
The 7-7-7 rule breaks the first 21 days into three key phases to guide a dog’s emotional and social adjustment:
👉Days 1-7: Settling In. Keep things calm and consistent. Limit space, follow a simple routine, and let the dog come to you. Bonding starts with trust, not pressure.
👉Days 8-14: Exploration & Socialization. Gradually introduce new rooms, people, and experiences. Always move at the dog’s pace, using praise and treats to build confidence.
👉Days 15-21: Feeling at Home. Reinforce routines, deepen the bond, and continue positive reinforcement training. Many dogs begin to truly open up during this stage.
This method complements the widely used 3-3-3 philosophy and can be adjusted to meet a dog where they are. Whether it takes 3 weeks or 3 months, each dog deserves the chance to grow at their own pace, with structure, patience, and kindness every step of the way. 💗
