Happy Sunday 🫶

I wanted to pop in real quick and let everyone know that big Lights of Love fundraiser will be happening on September 20th in Elmwood Park!

As a volunteer and sponsor for this event, I'm excited to see it all come to life. Having a space to honor and memorialize all of the beloved pets who have gone before us while celebrating and having fun is so incredibly important.

Each and every pet who has come into our lives has left the biggest impact. It's special to have an evening to honor them and talk about who they were to you. This is also an excellent opportunity to support a local rescue and give back to the community.

You do not have to attend in person to purchase luminaries. If you cannot attend, but still want someone to hold space for your rainbow bridge bestie, I will be happy to do that for you on the day of the event.

Let's talk about reactive dogs.
Let's REALLY talk about them.

Some of you know this, some of you don't. Reactive dogs are our specialty. Through and through, reactive dogs will be the heart of our business.

So what makes us proficient in working with reactive dogs? This boy right here. The 10 year old border collie who has taught us everything we know about life with a reactive dog.

Human reactivity? He had/has it. With years of hard work and dedication, he's managed to get through his human reactivity and now loves when people visit and getting to say hello to friends when he's out in public.

Dog reactivity? He had/has it. He went from a boy who was ready to square up with any and every dog he laid eyes on. Again, with years of dedication and hard work, he has gained so many dog friends. He just prefers the girlies and more submissive dogs.

Barrier & Leash reactivity? 100%. After 10+ years, Raleigh still struggles with barrier and leash reactivity. So we've learned all the tricks to avoiding avoidable situations. He doesn't love dogs on the opposite sides of the fence and he doesn't care for people when they get too close to the car, but by advocating for him and learning what makes him uncomfortable, we've managed this greatly.

75% of our clientele are reactive dogs. Whether it's human reactivity or dog reactivity, we've seen it all. We've experienced dogs that have had to be muzzled for the first few MONTHS of visits turn into our best friends. We've been nipped at. We've broken up fights. We've learned to work with households that require their pups to be separated at all times.

There's one thing we know and it's that reactive dogs deserve all the love that non-reactive dogs get. Sometimes it just takes working through big feelings to get there.

We never force a pup to do anything they're clearly not comfortable with. We work one on one with the humans to ensure they're just as comfortable as their pups. We take our time. Sometimes it's a marathon and not a sprint.

Let's talk booking!🐾

How early in advance should you book your pet sitter or dog walker?

This can be a bit of a loaded question. Some sitters have the option to book last minute while others book up months in advance. So, we'll speak from our availability and experience.

Holidays always book faster than non-holidays. The 1st and 2nd weekends of August are almost always booked too. Memorial Day and 4th of July weekend this year were all full before the start of May. Thanksgiving drop ins sometimes start at the beginning of the year, but really pick up after the start of school.

One thing that's important to remember is that if you book your sitter on an as needed basis, they're working you into their schedule of daily clients. It's always good practice to book your sitters/walks for occasional walks outside of your travels to remain a current and active client.

The earlier you book, the better! 🐾

When your pet sitter starts to bring on staff, we know that can be stressful. You trust your pet sitter. You hired them for a reason (their expertise, experience, reviews, certifications, etc). So what should you expect as they bring on staff?

The exact. Same. Thing.

Our staff not only will complete weeks of supervised hands on training, but also important online courses that go into detail about important safety precautions, pet CPR & First Aid basics, providing detailed elite care and so much more.

Happy Pride Month! 🏳️‍🌈

Pride month means so much to me after having grown up in a community that disparaged even the thought of something like Pride. Being a safe space has been one of the foundations of this business.

Our clients can feel safe being their true and honest selves with us while trusting that we will do anything and everything to protect their pets and homes.

One thing we truly love about this industry is that we get to work with all these amazing animals who love fully and unconditionally.

Each year, I give back to our community by choosing a nonprofit donation recipient that helps those in the LGBTQIA+ community. No one should ever be forced to face hardships solely based on them living their true abs authentic selves.

BIG DAY TODAY!

Allow me to introduce the newest Pampered Pack Team Member - Hanna! We are so incredibly excited to have Hanna on the team this summer and everyone she's met has taken to her almost instantly.

Here's a little bit about Hanna:

Hi! I’m Hanna, and I’ve been loving dogs for as long as I can remember. I begged my parents for a cute little Yorkie when I was 4 years old and was so obsessed with him that somehow I managed to convince them for 3 more dogs as I grew up. I’m originally from Kearney, and in high school, I worked at a vet clinic as a kennel attendant, volunteered at the animal shelter, and even started my own little pet sitting business. I moved to Omaha for college and just graduated with my teaching degree. I rewarded myself with, of course, a dog of my very own, Elton. I am super excited to be helping out with as many dogs as I can this summer before I start teaching in the fall!
